I think as humans, or at least me as a human, loves to see people reach their goals and celebrate victories. It’s part of the reason I love movies and TV shows so much, and definitely the reason I went into Journalism! I love all the details that make humans so… human. That’s why when it has to do with health, wellness, fitness, weight loss, etc. I am ALL IN! I’m the type to jump up and shriek when I’m watching a TV show celebrating a big win. That’s why Z Living’s newest show, The Big Fat Truth, has a powerful impact on me. In truth, it’s because I’ve been on the biggest health journey of my life for a year now.
It all started early last year.
Actually, it started way before that. I was born to strong parents and a wonderful older sister, but my life was shattered when my father passed away suddenly, right before my fourth birthday. Stories like that change you. I could have crumpled, and honestly, I have many times, but I have also grown up to be inspired to be and do more. And now that I have kids, I want so much for them. I want so much for me. It’s never too early or too late to start your health and wellness journey.
Now flash forward to early last year. I had a few annual medical appointments, as I tend to schedule them all together, and I was not happy with the results. My blood pressure was higher than it had ever been from stress, and I didn’t feel well inside. I would get winded and breathless just from climbing stairs and I could barely stay awake during the 3-6pm hours. My blood sugars were higher than they should be for someone with no history of diabetes in the family, and my clothes didn’t fit right anymore. I felt lumpy and gray. I felt uninspired. Not only that, but it was the year I was turning the age my father had been when he had passed away from undiagnosed heart disease. I was petrified. I was paralyzed by fear, and nothing changed.
Until it DID!
It took one conversation with my doctor. It was the fact that my blood pressure went down just from releasing stress.
It took one conversation with my doctor. It was the fact that my blood pressure went down just from releasing stress. It’s that he suggested I start a regular exercise regimen – for more reasons than I can count – and eat more whole foods and fruits/vegetables. The conversation was positive and inspirational. It’s amazing how one bad medical reading can make you re-evaluate every aspect of your life, and want to change. Not only did I make changes after that conversation, I made changes THAT DAY. Now I feel more fit and toned. I feel more glowing. I have my energy and hopes and dreams back.
For a while there, I had none of the above. And nothing was scarier than not recognizing the face in the mirror.
Did you ever notice that it only takes one trigger, one conversation, one story, to set you on a new, different path in life. So many stories inspired me and pushed me along my way. What if you could watch MULTIPLE inspiring stories at once?
