I went to King Arthur Baking Company (the headquarters!) with my mom in December and realized that I can do a lot more than I thought. We bought Des a baking pan for Hanukkah and started with their chocolate doughnut mix. After we ran out, we realized that the options are pretty much endless. Making doughnuts (or donuts) is fun for me! It’s like when I first learned how to make bagels (also recently). It’s not like I do it every day, but at least I know I can if I need to make them. Well, doughnuts are always good, but hit a little differently for Valentine’s Day.
Baked Doughnut Recipe for Valentine’s Day:
What You Need:
Dough:
1/4 cup butter
1 large egg
1 Tbsp vanilla sugar (which can be store bought or homemade)
1/2 tsp salt
3 Tbsp sugar
1/2 cup milk, room temperature
2 Tbsp warm water
1 packet dry yeast
3 cups flour
6 Tbsp any kind of berry jam
Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbsp milk
Red dye (very tiny amount)
Sprinkles
What You Do:
1 – Get out all ingredients and mix yeast, water, and sugar; then leave for 10 minutes.
2 – Mix flour in a separate bowl, and then add salt and vanilla sugar.
3 – Add milk, egg, and butter to the flour bowl, and then mix.
4 – Combine the first mixture with the second mixture and knead your dough.
5 – Form donuts into rings, let them rest for 15 minutes, and then bake at 375 for about 30 minutes.
6 – Cut a slit into the side of each donut and use a pastry bag filled with jam to fill the donut. (this is optional and not necessarily easy for me)
7 – Meanwhile, mix everything for the glaze and dip each donut into it. Then add sprinkles!
So, have you ever made a baked doughnut recipe like this?

These are so perfect for Valentine’s day! I prefer baked donuts over fried. I love how festive these are too – pinned!
