I mean it. I never show up empty handed to a house with a new baby. During the last several years, there have been six new babies within my family, including my own, if you can believe that one! Both of my sisters have had two kids in the last five years, and my brother and his wife welcomed their third, a particularly adorable baby boy. Five NEW nieces and nephews. And sure, this is my family and I always want to do what’s best for them and go above and beyond, but this goes for anyone who has a baby. I have this thing I’ve done, that I’ve now done for both of my sisters and my little brother. I showed up to their house, after calling first, with three things.
6 Awesome Gift Ideas For a New Mom:
1 – Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®):
Do you know about Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®)? What a wonderful gift idea to make a donation in a new mom’s name. This organization serves children & families worldwide through family-centered programs which promote health and togetherness. There is a network of RMHC Chapters in 62 countries and regions around the world, and they provide more than 2.6 million overnight stays annually for families with children receiving medical care at 90% of the top children’s hospitals worldwide. I found out that RMHC operates three core programs across its global network of Chapters. And through these three core programs, RMHC provides so much more than shelter for families who need to travel for medical care.
The programs are a home away from home that provide comfort, support and resources to families who travel far from home for the medical care their child needs. They provide comfort to families right in the hospital, giving them a private place to relax or decompress, and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® programs bring medical, dental, and health care resources to underserved communities where they’re needed the most. Find out more about RMHC here, and make a donation here.
2 – Gentle Baby Lotion and Gentle Hair and Body Wash from Baby Magic:
After 11 years and three kids, we are no strangers to Baby Magic®! And with the weather getting warmer, I love when Rider is just in a diaper and onesie, and I can hug him with his soft, great-smelling skin. The best! And now that he’s in his own room (first night was last night!), we have a new bath time and bedtime bonding ritual, that ends with a book (that he sometimes tries to eat) and then a nice soothing sleep! Each of our favorite Baby Magic® products is dermatologist tested and crafted for baby’s delicate skin, featuring nourishing formulas and wholesome ingredients, and they’re always made without parabens, phthalates, dyes and sulfates. You can purchase Gentle Baby Lotion here, and Gentle Hair and Body Wash here.
Gentle Baby Lotion:
This is a classic scent that brings me nostalgia, and always will, as it’s beloved across many generations. This lotion contains good-for-you ingredients such as anti-oxidant rich vitamins and hydrating Aloe for healthy, soft skin, and is perfect for after baby’s bath to lock in moisture.
After bath, I gently massage it onto his skin until it’s absorbed. It features Vitamins A, B and E along with Aloe to help moisturize dry skin while helping calm and soothe.
Gentle Hair and Body Wash:
You can make bath time a breeze with Baby Magic’s Gentle Hair and Body Wash! And we need a lot more baths these days because of the solid food messes he makes at dinnertime. The wash cleanses Rider’s skin with a delicate formula that is tear-free and sulfate-free – and is enriched with nourishing Calendula, Shea Butter, and Coconut Oil to leave him soft and clean. I pour it on my hands or my little baby bath sponge to create a soft lather, and then I massage it into his hair and skin, and then rinse it out. The Coconut Oil and Shea Butter give skin an extra soft feel.
3 – Rock from the Sky, by Jon Klassen from Candlewick Press:
We love everything from Candlewick Press. I consider this children’s book publisher, located in Massachusetts just like me, to be a favorite publisher. And they have published outstanding children’s books for readers of all ages, for more than 25 years! Rock from the Sky, by Jon Klassen is a hardcover picture book with 40 pages, and is a new favorite for all of us. This book is a hilarious meditation on the workings of friendship, fate, shared futuristic visions, and that funny feeling you get that there’s something off somewhere, but you just can’t put your finger on it. Jon Klassen is a Caldecott Medalist for his previous New York Times bestselling Hat Trilogy picture book titles: I Want My Hat Back, This is Not My Hat, and We Found a Hat.
This book is a great read for everyone; parents and older siblings love the offbeat humor, and early readers (like Des) will build reading confidence since it’s a longer 40 page picture book format. To help support local bookstores, you can find it here.
