Artisan Homemade Bread Recipe (Easy and Pretty!)

In our recipe, we will use the simplest ingredients – flour, water, yeast, salt and a little sugar. If you have a bread baking mold, it’s best to use it. If not, you can make a lovely loaf in a simple skillet lined with parchment paper.

What You Need:

3/4 cup warm water

1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (one packet)

2 tsp sugar

1 1/2 cups flour (plus extra for decorating

1 tsp salt

3 drops each of two colors of food coloring (your choice)

1 Tbsp oatmeal

Start your kneading by preparing the yeast mixture to make sure it is properly activated and will give your bread the best rise possible. The dough is then kneaded until smooth and left to rise. Once molded and shaped, the loaf is baked in a hot oven. Throughout the recipe you will find tips and tricks to help you get the best results and a true masterpiece.

What You Do:

1 – Start by activating the yeast. In a bowl, combine warm water and sugar.  Pour the active dry yeast into the water and stir the mixture. Allow the mixture to stand for 5-10 minutes until foam appears. If it doesn’t, then the yeast is inactive or expired. It will have to be replaced. Add salt and flour (1 cup) and start kneading. It is convenient to do it with a special spatula or a wooden spoon. Knead until a coarse dough forms.

2 – Place the dough on a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 7 minutes, adding the remaining flour.  The dough should become smooth and elastic, slightly sticky. Sprinkle the lifting bowl with flour. Roll the dough into a ball and place in the bowl. Cover the bowl with cling film and leave to rise for 1 hour. During this time the dough will have doubled in volume.

3 – Turn the contents of the bowl over and place the dough on the parchment without crumbling it. Sprinkle the surface of the loaf with flour and draw a square pattern with a thread.

4 – In a staggered pattern, grease squares with water and lay out oatmeal petals in a circle and apply food coloring in the center with a wet paintbrush.

5 – In the remaining squares, make cross-shaped incisions with a blade. Make the incisions along the lines that form the squares. Transfer the dough to the pan. Let it proof under a towel for another 15 minutes while the oven preheats to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 25 minutes until golden. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.

Bread Storage:

Store leftover bread wrapped in a clean kitchen towel to keep it crisp for up to three days.

To freeze bread, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then in a freezer-safe bag. It can be frozen for up to three months. Thaw at room temperature and reheat in the oven if desired.
