I admit I’m a bit of a Nutrition Bar junkie.

I learned it the hard way after three years at Orlando theme parks – walking uphill in the humidity or heat for 14 hour days. There are only two things I believe really get you through those days. Ok, three things. Iron will and ambition. Plenty of cold water. AND, snacks that have no less than ten grams of protein. Then, you can best get through your day with energy and grit!

My days now? They are still and may always be 12-14 hour marathons. We don’t always have rides, cotton candy, and a beating sun down our backs, but we are busy people in a busy world. I have become a bit of a fitness fanatic during these last five months or so of 2016. I won’t go on a long walk/run, or to a fitness class, without a ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bar in my purse. I have two jobs. For the next month it’s three, as I picked up a large data entry job yesterday. One of my jobs, and now two, can be high stress. In between fitness, career, and full-time family time, I’ve become a huge daytime snacker.

Whether it’s long days photographing weddings, products, or people. Whether it’s days of blogging, family drop-offs and pick-ups, and now data entry, I don’t always, or ever, get the chance to sit down to a big lunch at home. That’s why I depend on ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bars, and pair them with homemade snacks that allow me to get and keep going with my days.

First, let’s talk about ZonePerfect® bars! How do they help me in my fitness routine and busy lifestyle? My days never slow down, no matter how tired or hungry I get, and often at the same time. Not only just a pick-me-up, ZonePerfect® is a straight up, all-in, get it girl, lift me up, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or even 5th wind I need. What are the benefits, other than feeling good about myself? They are rewarding, they satisfy cravings, they are convenient, they make me feel satisfied, they are enjoyable for the family, and they are nutritious. With a high quality taste, no less than ten grams of protein, and a great variety of delicious flavors, ZonePerfect® bars are a positive and rewarding experience. There is no HFCS, they are a good source of fiber, they have versatility and balance, AND, they were developed by a nutrition company. I’m all in here. Are you?

Snack and rally. Snack and seize the day!

Now that you know one of my favorite healthy snack options, would you like to see how I pair them? I’m a snack pairing person, through and through. Whether it’s a cheese stick, apples and peanut butter, or something even more deluxe, these snacks get me through my days every day. One of my favorite gorgeous snacks is to put almond butter on a rice cake or large cracker, and then put fresh peach slices on top. If I’m feeling industrious I’ll add dried cranberries or coconut. Or..

I’ll arrange the peach slices to look like flowers. It only takes a minute.

So lush and juicy, and perfect with the almond butter smoothness, and rice cake or cracker crunch.

You can also use sunbutter, but I just found that the almond butter pairs well with the peachiness.

I also love to make homemade frozen yogurt. Especially when the weather is warmer, and I crave an ice cream-like snack. Frozen yogurt is easy to make, but my version does use an ice cream maker. It’s quick, easy, and customizable.

This recipe will be creamy, cold, a little sweet, and a little tart.

You can use your sweetener of choice, your yogurt of choice, and even your fruit toppings of choice. My particular combo makes me feel awesome on a busy, warm day. I like to sit in the sun and enjoy my cold snack, and be in awe that I made it!

Are you ready to enjoy it yourself?

Homemade Vanilla Frozen Yogurt With Berries and Bananas

Homemade Vanilla Frozen Yogurt With Berries and Bananas

Ingredients

  • 1 quart (3-4 cups) of whole milk plain yogurt (or flavored)
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup of white sugar or honey or another sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon of organic vanilla extract
  • 1 small banana or half a large one
  • blueberries

Instructions

  1. Make sure you freeze the bowl from your ice cream maker for at least 24 hours. Ours is always in the freezer after use, because we use it often.
  2. Whisk together the yogurt, cream, sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl.
  3. Mix until the sweetener is all mixed in, and the mixture feels smooth and not gritty. This may take about 1-3 minutes.
  4. Pour the mixture into the ice cream machine and churn until it's the texture of soft serve ice cream. This took me about 15-20 minutes. Don't over-churn!
  5. Put frozen yogurt in the freezer for about six hours, or until hard.
  6. Use a rounded scoop and serve with bananas and blueberries.

  1. Perfect spring/summertime treat and totally going to be trying this very soon. Oh and by the way, I just did our Disney fastpass selections today as we are now 60 days out of our trip. So excited and bring on the Disney humidity and heat, too 🙂

    1. I know, right? I don’t even like humidity and heat but when you have a spring like we have? I realize I’d rather be hot than always cold!

  2. Are there any Zone bars that are gluten free? I LOVE protein bars and I have found a few that I love, but would love more variety!

    That yogurt snack looks DELICIOUS!!

  3. Can’t wait to make this! We’ve made homemade ice cream but never frozen yogurt. Now I need sunshine and warm weather to go with it.

    1. Funny because I never had either! We have the ice cream maker – gifted to us for our wedding WITH a Ben & Jerry’s cookbook. Even the cookbook mentions frozen yogurt.
You can do Greek yogurt too, although it might not be as creamy? I’m sure there are ways around that, and hello, it’s delicious!

  4. I’ve never tried these, but I do sometimes buy gluten free bars when I’m away from home and I need a good snack. I easily get hangry so I must eat every 3-4 hours ☺ Snacks that have protein are great.

  5. I always have a box of protein bars in the house since I started all my fitness challenges. And I keep several in my purse for those out of the house and on the run days. They work great to keep me feeling full and my energy up. I LOVE the rice cake snack idea!!! Definitely adding that to my snack list. Yogurt is certainly a staple and I am in need of some new ways to “dress” it up. Frozen version will be awesome for summer time.

    1. Same! A box in the pantry and a bar or two in my purse. Or else!
I’m so with you. If we were neighbors, we’d probably run together. And photograph moose and birds. And you could come over and see our authentic Captain America shield.
      Wait, why isn’t this real?

  6. Oh my gosh this is just yummy all the way around! I love the yogurt and then the peach and cracker snack. That is indeed gorgeous! It really is easy to make healthy food choices that really taste good, isn’t it?!

    1. It’s totally easy and possible! That doesn’t mean I don’t think about cookies.. a lot.. but it’s nice to have these choices.

  7. This is the perfect treat for an after school snack and trust me I know about needing some energy bars when you’re doing Disney. While it’s fun doing the walks and seeing everything, by the end of the day you’re worn out and there’s other days to do. My kids would love these!

    1. haha, I think that’s cool! This has made me take better photos of my food, even when it’s not for a sponsored thing. What’s funny is that when I was pregnant with Des, I couldn’t stand 90% of food photos for seven weeks or so. It makes me remember it when I post something. “Might this photo make someone nauseous? If so, what can I change??”

  8. The frozen yogurt looks so good, and the snack bars sound great! I love keeping snacks on hand to help me get through the day, and finding a healthy snack with lots of protein is always good 🙂

  9. GAH! YUM!!!!!! Lately I have been obsessedwith making my own ICE CREAM! Ice cream makers – YES! I think I will register for like 10 of them, so I can make 10 different types of ice cream and then eat them all and get super fat, LMFAO! Cause I mean… #cantstopwontstop!

Were you able to stick to one bowl of this delicious bowl of awesome?!

    1. You should definitely register for ten. I can’t remember if we did or not, but we did get one as a gift and it’s magical! I bet your recipes will be so awesome. Now are there GiGi friendly rainbow sprinkle recipes out there? Inquiring minds.

    1. It was a new one for me! I love peanut butter so much but it somehow didn’t seem as fit for peaches as almond or sunbutter. Who knows? Hope you’re still enjoying those bars like I am!

  11. Love the frozen yogurt recipe. I will definitely try it because it doesn’t look too intimidating. Protein bars are a part of my daily eating routine. I will have to try the ZonePerfect bars.

    1. It’s not intimidating! As long as you have the ice cream maker bowl already frozen. Otherwise that can tack on a day! There are no-churn recipes too, though.

  12. Hi Tamara, you had me the word fudge! Fudge Graham sounds moreish. As for your ice cream I have never made a frozen yogurt ice cream before, yet I am a big fan of red berries, Greek yogurt and honey for breakfast, so I will be having a go at your recipe.

I enjoy peanut butter with banana or sliced strawberries on rice crackers, naturally sweet and satisfying. Congratulations on getting a third job!

Your breakfast sounds perfect. I need to try that tomorrow.
Thanks about the job, but it’s a tough one! I feel like I can’t leave the house for three weeks.

  15. Zone bars are my favorite – and I always have one in my person too. Otherwise I get hungry and just eat chocolate :)! Love the rice cakes with fruit – such a great idea, and my next snack!

    1. Same here with the chocolate! The rice cakes, nut butter, fruit combo is FUN! I can think of ten off the top of my head to try.

    1. Yes, me too! Sometimes I just eat them for lunch and I’m good for a few hours. Then I need a big dinner, though. With vegetables.
