I admit I’m a bit of a Nutrition Bar junkie.

I learned it the hard way after three years at Orlando theme parks – walking uphill in the humidity or heat for 14 hour days. There are only two things I believe really get you through those days. Ok, three things. Iron will and ambition. Plenty of cold water. AND, snacks that have no less than ten grams of protein. Then, you can best get through your day with energy and grit!

My days now? They are still and may always be 12-14 hour marathons. We don’t always have rides, cotton candy, and a beating sun down our backs, but we are busy people in a busy world. I have become a bit of a fitness fanatic during these last five months or so of 2016. I won’t go on a long walk/run, or to a fitness class, without a ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bar in my purse. I have two jobs. For the next month it’s three, as I picked up a large data entry job yesterday. One of my jobs, and now two, can be high stress. In between fitness, career, and full-time family time, I’ve become a huge daytime snacker.

Whether it’s long days photographing weddings, products, or people. Whether it’s days of blogging, family drop-offs and pick-ups, and now data entry, I don’t always, or ever, get the chance to sit down to a big lunch at home. That’s why I depend on ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bars, and pair them with homemade snacks that allow me to get and keep going with my days.

First, let’s talk about ZonePerfect® bars! How do they help me in my fitness routine and busy lifestyle? My days never slow down, no matter how tired or hungry I get, and often at the same time. Not only just a pick-me-up, ZonePerfect® is a straight up, all-in, get it girl, lift me up, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or even 5th wind I need. What are the benefits, other than feeling good about myself? They are rewarding, they satisfy cravings, they are convenient, they make me feel satisfied, they are enjoyable for the family, and they are nutritious. With a high quality taste, no less than ten grams of protein, and a great variety of delicious flavors, ZonePerfect® bars are a positive and rewarding experience. There is no HFCS, they are a good source of fiber, they have versatility and balance, AND, they were developed by a nutrition company. I’m all in here. Are you?

Snack and rally. Snack and seize the day!

Now that you know one of my favorite healthy snack options, would you like to see how I pair them? I’m a snack pairing person, through and through. Whether it’s a cheese stick, apples and peanut butter, or something even more deluxe, these snacks get me through my days every day. One of my favorite gorgeous snacks is to put almond butter on a rice cake or large cracker, and then put fresh peach slices on top. If I’m feeling industrious I’ll add dried cranberries or coconut. Or..

I’ll arrange the peach slices to look like flowers. It only takes a minute.

So lush and juicy, and perfect with the almond butter smoothness, and rice cake or cracker crunch.

You can also use sunbutter, but I just found that the almond butter pairs well with the peachiness.

I also love to make homemade frozen yogurt. Especially when the weather is warmer, and I crave an ice cream-like snack. Frozen yogurt is easy to make, but my version does use an ice cream maker. It’s quick, easy, and customizable.

This recipe will be creamy, cold, a little sweet, and a little tart.

You can use your sweetener of choice, your yogurt of choice, and even your fruit toppings of choice. My particular combo makes me feel awesome on a busy, warm day. I like to sit in the sun and enjoy my cold snack, and be in awe that I made it!

Are you ready to enjoy it yourself?

Homemade Vanilla Frozen Yogurt With Berries and Bananas

Homemade Vanilla Frozen Yogurt With Berries and Bananas

  • 1 quart (3-4 cups) of whole milk plain yogurt (or flavored)
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup of white sugar or honey or another sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon of organic vanilla extract
  • 1 small banana or half a large one
  • blueberries

  1. Make sure you freeze the bowl from your ice cream maker for at least 24 hours. Ours is always in the freezer after use, because we use it often.
  2. Whisk together the yogurt, cream, sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl.
  3. Mix until the sweetener is all mixed in, and the mixture feels smooth and not gritty. This may take about 1-3 minutes.
  4. Pour the mixture into the ice cream machine and churn until it's the texture of soft serve ice cream. This took me about 15-20 minutes. Don't over-churn!
  5. Put frozen yogurt in the freezer for about six hours, or until hard.
  6. Use a rounded scoop and serve with bananas and blueberries.

Where do I get these awesome ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bars? Walmart, of course!

  5. I always have a box of protein bars in the house since I started all my fitness challenges. And I keep several in my purse for those out of the house and on the run days. Yogurt is certainly a staple and I am in need of some new ways to “dress” it up. Frozen version will be awesome for summer time.

    1. haha, I think that’s cool! This has made me take better photos of my food, even when it’s not for a sponsored thing. What’s funny is that when I was pregnant with Des, I couldn’t stand 90% of food photos for seven weeks or so. It makes me remember it when I post something. “Might this photo make someone nauseous? If so, what can I change??”
