Order in the house! Am I alone in saying that this time of year is somewhat nuts?

Now that school is back in session and the cold weather is coming, the season brings with it – early sunsets, colds and viruses, after school sports and lessons, and homework galore. The pets get extra antsy because they know that winter is coming and they want to run and frolic and play. Also, they bring in more mud in the fall, if that’s even possible. We didn’t get a lot of rain over the summer but we’ve been getting rainy fall days. Basically, there are a lot of messes.

All Hands On Deck: Making Family Cleaning Fun/Time Saving Tips:

First of all, let’s just say that all of these cleaning tips can be used year round. It’s just that the school year just started and I’m feeling myself being pulled in a million different directions. The good news is that we’re talking about must-haves and household hacks right now. It’s not just about parenting, or about cleaning, but about how it all ties together. And how we find our rhythm and flow, because that’s important. Right now, we love Bona quick clean products.

We do quite a lot on our hardwood floors, and we love them very much! We had them refinished last winter when we were in Florida, and have been careful to care for them since. The dogs sleep on the floor, and the kids play on them and eat on them (but not off them).

Family time-saving tips for the week:

• We have three pets that shed frequently, so we check it often. How often? That depends on your pets, how they shed, and what their fur is like. We try to do it every 2-4 weeks here.
• Make an all-family shopping list, for the grocery store, hardware store, drug store, etc. Whenever someone uses something up or notices something missing, have them write it down. Now we do cheat on this a bit because we have a smart device with a built in shopping list. There’s nothing like all four family members writing it down, though!
• Make your meals for the week on Sunday night. We even get these fun reusable lunch containers with sections and portions and make fun lunches for all of us.
• We find pet fur everywhere but we can never figure out exactly which animal left it there. So we groom all three! Even better, we designate a grooming day. They don’t all like it, but it helps!
• Enlist family member help. Everything goes quickly when all hands are on deck. The kids are old enough to help with cooking, cleaning, and laundry folding and putting away.
• De-clutter your house. When we clean, we actually make an even bigger mess! I know it sounds counter-productive but we’re guilty of leaving out screwdrivers, small batteries, vacuum cleaners with cords you can trip over, etc. I’m not saying not to use all those things. You need them! Just clean up after yourself each night after cleaning.
• Dust, vacuum and mop once a week. The bonus is that older kids can help with the cleaning. As a parent and a pet parent as well, I see so many reasons to have Bona products.
