Spirit Riding Free Party Favors
It was actually at a local fair, and then she rode again at a somewhat local farm in the Berkshires. It was three years ago this summer that my parents got a pony to join the horse and mule on their horse farm. Then it became a regular part of her life. It’s funny how when you grow up with horses and ponies, maybe you don’t wish for horses and ponies the way other little girls do – because you already have them. I will say that maybe you wish for more free time to just ride with the wind!
Scarlet is nine now, and no less in love with all things equine. She is my kid, after all. You know what else we both love? POPCORN! Yes, that gets all caps. We are the biggest popcorn lovers EVER. She just spent her summer having the most rigorous camp schedule we’ve ever had! Five weeks of regular camp, one week of theater camp, and one week of science camp. Followed by an overnight stay at a lake house with her best friend and, well, I just miss my kid! Fourth grade will be here before we know it – NEXT WEEK – so right now we’re going to have a fun mother/daughter party with a few friends/daughters. And it’s all because season 6 of “Spirit Riding Free” came out on Netflix on August 17th!
“Spirit Riding Free” is set during the 19th century in the small town of Miradero, Texas, and is about a 12-year-old girl named Lucky. Lucky recently recently relocated from the city, and encounters a wild kiger mustang named Spirit. They bond and embark on everyday adventures across the land. There are other girls and horses to love, and wranglers not to love. It’s the perfect movie for this horse-loving mother and daughter duo, and we made something pretty special to share with friends. And we’re sharing it so that you can make it too! Our popcorn jars can also be used as pencil cups or centerpieces.
Spirit Riding Free Party Favors:
What You Need:
3 wide mouth, pint size (16 oz) mason jars
33″ long x 2-1/2″ wide burlap ribbon
3 colorful bandanas (22″ x 22″)
ruler or tape measure
hot glue and hot glue gun
What You Do:
1 – Cut 3 pieces of burlap ribbon 11″ in length. Secure to the jar with hot glue.
2 – Cut one bandana 5″ wide. Your finished piece will be 5″ x 22″. Fold in half, lengthwise and gently crease. Open and fold the long outer edges into the center. Fold the bandana in half. This will hide your cut/unfinished edge of the bandana. Wrap around the jar and tie in a knot. Trim the ends to even them up and shorten them. Repeat with the remaining bandanas and jars.
3 – Fill with popcorn!
