It’s my ability to seek and cultivate wonder, fun and a sense of humor too. In truth, it’s something I love about him too. I remember when we first met and would follow all of our whims. We’d go on dates, sleep in the next morning, have great brunches, and then explore the world. I remember so well chasing after him on a San Francisco pier – because he had bought a fresh pint of juicy strawberries at the farmers market and was making me chase him for them. That was a happy time – dating time. Ours was odd because we lived 3,000 miles away from each other, but it was a dating period just the same.
I always thought I would be exempt from life ruts but sometimes they happen, and you need a refresher. We have busy lives and miscommunications and conversations about who needs to buy toilet paper and if the summer camp bill was paid. It’s not always the gushing and romantic and musical backdrop of when you meet, date, and fall in love with one another.
So, why not date? Date your significant other, as if it’s new and as if you’re just met. Date yourself new again. With summer here, the options are endless and fun. My ideas take on a bit of a playful motif, but that’s because of who we are at heart, and what we love about each other most. You have to make your own schedule based on your own interests, needs and resources. You can stay home or go out. Do you need a babysitter? If you can get a sitter only in the afternoons, or only at night, or if you can’t get one at all – factor these needs in. If you have a lot of money, or if you don’t, and if you have a lot of time, or if you don’t, my list for fun summer date ideas covers all of your bases, and can get you to an awesome place!
1 – ROAD. TRIP. My true favorite. There can be nothing like discovering the open road together – often the journey IS the destination, but there’s also some amazing things to see along the way. *Bonus tip: Include an overnight in this road trip.
We are Red Roof people. It’s so easy these days because the new RedRoof.com is easy to follow and understand. There’s a simplified user experience – which allows travelers to book on-the-go – securing the best rate with a simple “Tap! Tap! Go!” RedRoof.com also features dynamic graphics using a full suite of rich media tools, like videos, photos, slideshows, cinemographs, and more! If you’re looking for geo-localized and personalized content and deals, along with a full display of TripAdvisor reviews, you’re in luck! This allows travelers (us) to select the property and room that best fit our needs to make the most informed travel decisions. There’s also the new “Along-a-Route feature! This is my favorite one..
It uses technology to know travelers’ precise location and the direction they’re traveling in, so it can serve up properties literally right along their route – and not seven miles past when it’s already too late to stop!
2 – Tour your city, or your closest city. We did this in Boston over the winter and it was awesome even then!
3 – Berry picking. There’s nothing like picking berries on a summer day. It requires patience and teamwork, and has a built-in snack too. I think it’s a perfect date, although you do get dirt on you! *Bonus – bake something together with the berries.
4 – See a movie at the Drive-In. We actually have two near us, but it might require a search.
5 – Go to a fair or festival. It’s a little like being a kid again, and it’s a LOT romantic. Fried butter and all.
6 – Go mini golfing. Gosh, I love mini golfing. And gosh, I’m terrible at it! I still love it.
7 – Go to a special place to catch a sunset together. Or sunrise! Bonus points for that one.
