Do you make your pets part of your fun holiday celebrations? We do!

In my family, growing up, the stockings were held by the chimney with care – and my mom DEFINITELY bought or hand-made stockings for our pets. In fact, we still have holiday mornings with my family at my parent’s farm and we bring our dog, Athena, with us. I love that my mom gets her a stocking too. Then we fill it with good stuff! It’s to distract her from eating our wrapping paper and holiday candy, but it’s mainly to show her how much we love her. Dogs need holiday love too!

Before Athena and Astro came into my life, I didn’t know how much I needed them. I didn’t know I needed exercise accountability partners, co-pilots, therapists, playmates for the kids, and friends. Holidays with pets are fun, but we make sure to keep our dogs protected from fleas and ticks, rich food, and weather related discomfort or danger, and that way we can ensure happy, healthy, and SAFE holidays with our furry friends.

5 Ways to Keep Your Dog Protected This Holiday Season:

1 – If you give your pet water outside, swap the metal bowls with ceramic or plastic ones. And make sure you monitor their water freezing. You can also buy heated water bowls for many pets if this is a concern. It is in New England!

2 – Don’t leave your dog alone in a freezing car in winter, and always watch for antifreeze – it’s fatal for dogs.

3 – Make sure you keep your dog on a leash around frozen ponds, lakes, or rivers. They can fall through ice!

4 – Groom your dog to keep him or her properly insulated.

5 – Even though we live in New England with long and cold winters, we still protect our dogs from fleas and ticks year-round.

Vectra® 3D for Dogs is a fast and effective monthly topical. It kills and repels mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, lice, biting flies and mites* (*excluding mange mites) before they bite your dog. I love that it’s fast, effective, and easy to apply too!

Also, it kills fleas in four hours, and repels ticks before they can attach to dogs and take a blood meal. I haven’t seen a single insect on Athena or Astro since we started using it. It’s so easy. You use the applicator to part your dog’s fur at the base of her tail and you apply the product in a continuous line from the base of the tail along the center of her back, and up to her shoulder blades. You squeeze the applicator tube until it’s empty, but make sure you avoid superficial application to her fur. My dogs are a little wiggly, which is why I’m glad this is quick.
