Thank you Nokia for sponsoring this post. Visit the Nokia Body+ site for more info and start the new year off right!
For me, that happens in stages. Two years ago, I felt more stressed and afraid than I had previously ever felt and I no longer felt like carrying that weight on my shoulders. I simultaneously started barre classes and regular walks/jobs at the dog park with my dog. Even when it was icy, I’d put cleat on my boots and keep going out there. I made dog park friends, even though I preferred to be a lone wolf (in a dog park!). I remember on one particular day, after my favorite childhood teacher passed away, that I took to the dog park to cry it out. There, I ran into a friend also there to cry out her own personal grief.
When the ice and snow melted into damp grass and mud, I kept at it. My walks broke out into jogs and runs, and my dog was only too happy to keep up with me. She simply leaped that first time she saw me go. “She can run!” She must have thought.
Indeed, I can. However, the warm earth and mud gave way to heat and humidity, and worse, kids off from school. I slipped far behind, and then slipped so far behind I didn’t go for months. I always had the intention of coming back to it, but it wasn’t until the changing of the year, that I realized 2018 would be a big year for personal change. It’s in the subtle changes that add up. It’s getting more breathless when I run up stairs. And it’s fitting differently in clothes, even if I remain the same size. It’s all about how I feel and what I want for myself. I think about that every hour of every day. And I have something new – a Nokia Body+ – and I can’t wait to use it on my 2018 wellness journey. So far the results are inspiring.
Here are five steps I’m taking to be my best for 2018:
1 – I’m taking steps. Literally. My Nokia Body+ is much more than a scale. It’s a body analyzer. I’ll get into that more later, but one thing it does is Activity Tracking. By syncing the scale and your phone with the Nokia Health Mate app, it will tell you your day’s distance, exercise, calories burned with the steps you take. And you have the options to add your own exercise, make goals to reach 10,000 steps each day, and strive for goals with friends. Don’t be alarmed by my low step day. I had just set up the app! I have the inspiration to take more steps.
2 – Managing, maintaining, continuing and growing personal relationships. That sounds like a lot of words, right? I have many amazing people in my life but I go through phases of being an introvert or extrovert. Sometimes I’m struggling with personal issues and I retreat rather than reach out. Then I come out from those shells and realize what I’m missing. I make goals weekly to contact a friend for a coffee or breakfast (or dessert/drinks) date, and also to reach out to a loved one by email. When I’m feeling really ambitious, I even send cards and letters. I’m stunned by the impact it has on all-around health.
3 – Setting up my place(s) for wellness success. In the kitchen, organize your fridge and cupboards to have healthy options within reach, prep your meals, and keep spices around to liven up your meals. In my closet, I keep my vitamins and supplements and activewear within reach. In the bathroom, we store our Nokia Body+ by the bathroom vanity so we can use it first in the morning. There’s something about having everything in its right place and for wellness that feels great!
4 – Trying 15 minutes. 15 minutes is pretty powerful, actually. Here are a few ways you can use 15 minutes. Get up 15 minutes early and get a mindful start to your day. Try it for a week or a month! Feel the difference. Start adding a 15 minute brisk walk to your evenings or mornings. This will keep you mentally active and fit, and also get you fresh air.
5 – Getting a Nokia Body+. Well in fact, I got one! I find it to be unmatched in its ability to deliver the most accurate body composition readings (weight, body fat and water percentage, plus muscle and bone mass). The Nokia Body+ is accurate, comprehensive and family friendly. I love that it’s more than just a scale to determine weight. It’s a body analyzer!
The Nokia Body+ measures weight trends, BMI, fat mass, muscle mass, water, and bone mass. It can also tell you the weather! I love that it syncs automatically with my Health Mate app to provide encouragement and tips to achieve my goals.
The Health Mate app sets up in seconds. It lets you view a complete history of your health data, including activity, sleep, weight, and more. There you can see trends, track progress, and improve over time. It also has the ability to sync with other apps – like MyFitnessPal, etc. and this allows a fully comprehensive data set from steps taken, calories consumed, etc. As a whole, the Nokia Body+ is beautifully designed, and can recognize and track up to 8 users! We LOVE it.
