5 Reasons Your Mouth Isn’t Healthy As It Could Be (& How To Fix Them):

You are not brushing right.

You know how to brush your teeth properly, right? Well, actually many people don’t, and this is one of the major causes of issues such as plaque, decay, and bad breath. In fact, most of us think a quick swipe over with the brush in the morning and evening is enough.

However, dentists actually recommend that you brush your teeth after every time you eat. Especially if what you are eating is high in sugar. Of course, this is not always possible in the midst of a busy day. Therefore, do try and brush after lunch, as well as at the beginning and end of the day.

Also, the way that you brush matters just as much as how frequently you do it. That is, cleaning too hard can be very bad for your gums and lead to recession over time. Happily, you can solve this problem by using an electric toothbrush that has a built-in sensor that will flash a light and vibrate when you are brushing too hard. Something that can help minimize any damage you may do, as well as get you into much better mouth-healthy habits over the long term too.

You are overeating sugar.

We all know that sugar is terrible for our health, however, what we sometimes forget is that it’s awful for our teeth as well. In fact, sugar provides the perfect food for the bacteria that are responsible for plaque. A substance that when left unchecked, can result in discoloration, gum disease, and even tooth decay.

With that in mind cutting down on sugary food and drinks such as candy, chocolate, and sodas is always a good idea. If you want your mouth to be healthier, that is.

You are using mouthwash at the wrong time.

You may be feeling pretty proud of yourself right now if you regularly use mouthwash. After all, it’s an extra level of protection against bacteria, plaque, and tooth decay. The problem is that too many people use their mouthwash straight after brushing their teeth, which is actually not how it is designed to be used at all.

In fact, manufacturers recommend that you leave around 20-30 minutes in between brushing your teeth and using mouthwash to make sure it is as effective as possible. Happily, this isn’t actually so hard to do. The reason being that you can brush your teeth at the beginning of your morning or evening getting ready routine and then use mouthwash right at the end. Before you get into bed or leave for work. It’s just a small change, but it can definitely help boost your mouth health.

You have a bad tooth.

Bad teeth are no fun. In fact, cavities can smell, look unsightly, be very painful and have a terrible risk of infection too. Actually, if you have a cavity, you can pretty much guarantee that your mouth health is not as it should be.

All is not lost, however, because there are teeth removal and replacement options that you can consider. In fact, in most advanced cases removing the tooth and replacing it with a false one that looks natural is the best way to preserve your mouth health and stop the problem spreading to other teeth.

However, it is also worth noting that if you only have a small cavity, you may be able to opt for a filling. Therefore, be sure to speak to your dentist before making your decision.

Your tongue is furry.

We usually think of furry things as cute, but this certainly isn’t the case when it comes to our tongue. In fact, a furry tongue can not only feel nasty, but look bad, and be responsible for a bad odor as well.

With that in mind, taking care of your tongue as well as your teeth is crucial to dental hygiene. Happily, there are a range of products available such as tongue scrapers that can help you do this. Devices that are well with investing in if you want your whole mouth to be as healthy as possible.
