How to Have a Fun Cereal Party at Home

I don’t think I can even adequately tell you how much I love cereal, but I can show you!

In my house, cereal is king and it always has been. That’s why we get super excited for slumber parties in my house, now that both kids are old enough for them. And besides that, we have a lot of cousins we love to have over too. Inspired by a local arcade that does Saturday morning cereal and cartoons, we have created the perfect way to have a cereal party right at home! I’ll show you how I put the cereals in glass jars, make fun signs from the cereal packaging, and then have a delicious toppings bar too. It’s always a huge hit with the kids, and bonus points that they can help with their friends.

Time for a cereal party!

1 – First thing we do is go to Sam’s Club for Kellogg’s cereals! Our first favorite is Raisin Bran, because we can do so much with it. And for a sleepover party, I like variety, so I also get Frosted Mini Wheats and Froot Loops.

When I was a kid, cereal was THE breakfast destination because there were five of us. My parents would easily buy up to 5-10 cereal boxes at a time to suit all of our needs. As I got older, I grew to love cereal as more than just a breakfast staple. It’s sort of.. everything. It’s diverse, versatile, and good for ALL occasions. It’s reminiscent of when I was a kid, and we’d mix different cereals in a bowl. Now as an adult, I’d rather eat one cereal at a time with tons of toppings. It’s fun!

2 – Then go shopping for the ingredients, or find things in your own home! At Sam’s Club, I bought fresh fruit – like bananas, blueberries and raspberries – as well as coconut, chocolate chips, and slivered almonds too.

3 – Then go into prep mode. Cut the flaps of the cereal boxes, tape on bamboo skewers for sticks, and stick onto jars. Then pour the cereals into their counterpart labeled jars. Slice your bananas, wash your berries, and put all toppings in individual bowls and dishes. Think of fun combinations for the cereals and toppings! I love Raisin Bran with banana, coconut and almonds! For Frosted Mini Wheats, try blueberries and almonds – YUM. And for Froot Loops, have you ever had them with chocolate chips and bananas? Then get fun bowls and spoons. We liked polka dot bowls and fun colored spoons.

This part of the prep is fun when done with your kids. It’s easy to put together and just requires shopping for the right products and then putting your plan into action. Seriously, how fun is this? It reminds me of the slumber parties of my youth – when my sisters and I would all have friends over – making it one ultimate sleepover party with cereal the next day.

We have these fun little bowls for the toppings:

Now can we just take a second to appreciate and love all that is Raisin Bran? Probably you remember having it as a kid, right? I do! I remember the taste of the flakes and the way the milk tasted on them, and how the raisins tasted in a spoonful containing milk and flakes too. SO good. It’s so nostalgic for me. That’s why I love that it’s front and center for our cereal party. It’s a fun reminder for parents to show their kids the cereals of their childhoods. I can taste childhood in every bite.

Some other fun ideas might be flavored milks – like chocolate milk, strawberry milk, banana milk, and even caramel milk. I’ve even seen coffee milk! For our parties, we like the cereals and the toppings to be front and center, but I can see doing a party with just cereals and flavored milks next time one of the kids has a birthday or other cause for celebration!

So get to Sam’s Club and get some Raisin Bran and other cereals to make your own cereal party for the kids! (or you)

There’s nothing quite like watching your parents grow into grandparents.” — ad-libbed from Cassidy after Scarlet’s birth.

My kids have six grandparents. Sometimes that statement makes people give me a funny little look and ask, “How?” Sort of like how they give me a funny look when I tell them that my two older siblings are two weeks apart, but that those two weeks occurred over the deadline for starting kindergarten, so they were always in different grades. How are they two weeks apart? Are they delayed twins? No, they’re technically step-siblings. We just never used the word “step” in my family.

There is no “step.” It’s just that there was a divorce and two re-marriages and Cassidy’s family widened to include these spouses. And his mother’s husband and his father’s wife are every bit the kids’ grandparents. In heart and love and support.

So when it comes time to give the six grandparents holiday gifts – celebrating both Chanukah and Christmas – I rely on Office Depot’s Workonomy™ Print + Copy Services. It’s as simple as that! The grandparents are the ones most excited for holiday cards.

And I have to admit – I was pretty excited this year too!

As a photographer who does NOT do printing, I send my clients to the best place for all of their holiday card needs. I took a lot of family photos this year – probably a new record for me – and it heartens me to know how many loved ones are getting smiling photos I took! That said, I can’t neglect my own loved ones! This year, we enlisted Office Depot for help with our holiday cards and our grandparents gifts! Sometimes grandparents are the hardest to shop for! We have one set always traveling or far away. My parents live far away. And the closest set needs sweet reminders, as well, of their extended family.

And so, I made them all calendars. I used high-resolution photos and I took the time to go through my photos from the last year. It was fun for me to match months with photos. Even though it’s a new year, I liked finding photos that happened in the previous year’s month. Creating personalized photo gifts is really fun, but I take it super seriously. I love how easy it is to order picture perfect gifts online with Office Depot’s Workonomy™ Print and Copy Services online, and then pick up in-store. You can even do it last minute!
