Since my pets are such a big part of my life, I’ve become someone who happily celebrates pet holidays!

Some are fun, and some are more frivolous, and yet others are fun BUT also are a great cause. Or they can contribute to a great cause. And September 9th is “Hug Your Hound Day”. I had to research this fun pet holiday, and it was originally created by Ami Moore to remind people of the importance of having a long and lasting bond with your pets. This is about making your relationship with your dog better. Stronger. More meaningful. And the little things you do have a big impact. A dog’s life isn’t as long as we’d love it to be. And that doesn’t have to be morbid – it just means to fill those days and weeks and months and years with a close and unbreakable bond. Nothing matters more to your dog than your love and affection.

And of course, great food and treats!

Did you know that BJ’s has an incredible selection of pet food and treats? I’m all about the treats for Hug Your Hound Day because that’s the best way to spoil your pet! BJ’s offers a large selection of treats like Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Meatballs, which smell GREAT, and Blue Dog Bakery Softies. Both are huge favorites around here! The selection is always tremendous.

I love to treat Astro and Athena, and these treats make us all happy. Milo’s Kitchen Chicken Meatballs are made in the USA and with 100% real meat. No artificial flavors, colors, or fillers. My dogs already know the sound of the bag crinkling, and they come running! Des and I always take our weekly trips to BJ’s together. I push the cart and Des picks out the pet food and treats. You can’t beat that! He also picks out pet beds and pet meds too, but I always make sure it’s what we need. That’s why we love our shopping trips. They have everything we need, and things we didn’t even know we needed.

And that is why we love that BJ’s helps its members spoil their dogs with everything you need. They offer a large selection of pet food brands that cater to our pet’s needs without breaking our budget. And with three pets under our roof, along with our two kids, we’re happy to have a place that has a wide assortment of food and accessories at unbeatable values. As a member, you can shop wet and dry pet food, treats that support dental health, and specialty foods that cater to weight management or complete nutrition. Not to mention that families can save up to $500 a year by shopping at BJ’s.

How to Throw a Back to School Party

This post is sponsored by I Love Ice Cream Cakes. All thoughts, photos and ice cream cake love are my own.

We decided to throw a back to school party to celebrate all of the fun changes. See the 3 fun things we did to make this a success! #ad #IceCreamCakeBreak

As you know, back to school is a big deal around here.

We had a bit of a rocky first week of school. For one, school never starts before Labor Day for the northeast, but it started on August 30th this year! For another thing, Scarlet wound up with a high fever after one day of school and missed the second day of school, and essay writing assessment that day. She LOVES writing. I know she will be able to make it up this week on the first “real week of school” but I was sad for her. As for Des, he is rocking first grade so far. Life is pretty great when your best bud is in your class, your great preschool friend is now in your class, and your awesome next door neighbor is no longer the librarian – she’s now your teacher. All in all, we think we have a lot to celebrate with this new school year.

That’s why we decided to throw a back to school party to celebrate the new year with a few close friends. Here are the simple elements…

our favorite ice cream cakes

1 – First, food. We’ll get to dessert in a bit because that’s obviously the most important thing, but I thought it would be so much fun to recreate a “best of school lunch” meal. I even put them on plates with trays, like cafeteria trays! For us, we did grilled cheese on wheat bread, pineapple chunks, and potato tots. Couldn’t you absolutely see it on a school lunch menu?

How cute is that?

2 – Second, the activity. We made summer memory jars! They were such fun. We took a fun apple-themed mason jar and then wrote out our favorite summer memories to place in the jar. They could be very specific or just two words. Anything goes for this. Then at the end of the party, we took out all the pieces of paper from the jar and read them aloud.

3 – And most importantly, the CAKE! My mom raised me right in that a party needs ice cream and cake, so when you have ice cream cake? That’s perfection! Our back to school party was on the bigger side, so we picked up TWO yummy ice cream cakes from I Love Ice Cream Cakes on my weekly grocery store run. I wanted to find I Love Ice Cream Cakes products near me so I used this product locator. It was as simple as that to plan and pick up!
