Back to School Treats: Twinkie Pencils

In terms of back to school treats, these Twinkie Pencils are the cutest ever! They're easy to make and will be perfect for a back to school party at home!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you that these are among the cutest recipe inventions I’ve ever done.

And with tomorrow starting our first full week of school, I figured I’d be writing about back to school treats as much as possible. We had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Cassidy was in Denver seeing three Phish concerts, and a whole lot of good friends, and we had our own mini adventures at the Three County Fair and with a 7-kid playdate. Yeah, I’m not positive I’d recommend that – unless you want broken things in your house? And an empty fridge. Worth it, though, because we had our own back to school party! And what’s a back to school party without incredible back to school treats?

Back to School Treats: Twinkie Pencils

Twinkie Pencils:

What You Need:

1 Box Hostess Twinkies
10 Hershey Kisses
1 Pkg. Strawberry Marshmallows
6 oz. Wilton Candy Melts, White
2 oz. Wilton Candy Melts, Black
Foil

ingredients for back to school treats: twinkies pencils

What You Do:

1 – In a small bowl, melt the white chocolate according to package directions

2 – Unwrap all the Twinkies and trim a little off one end of each one so it tapers to a blunt point like a pencil

3 – Dip each tapered end into the melted chocolate so that it covers about a quarter of the Twinkie – set these on a parchment lined baking sheet

4 – Unwrap the Hershey Kisses and stick one on each chocolate end of the Twinkies so it looks like the lead point of a pencil – let these set until the chocolate hardens

5 – Take 10 marshmallows and cut about ¼ of the end off each one and discard

6 – Put a dot of melted white chocolate on the cut side of each marshmallow

7 – Cut a sliver off the other end of each Twinkie and press a marshmallow to each end and let them set for a few minutes until the chocolate is set

8 – Cut 10 pieces of foil about 4” x 1” and fold each piece in half lengthwise

10 – Wrap a foil piece around the crack where the marshmallow and the Twinkie meet

11 – Put a dot of melted white chocolate on one end of foil piece and attach the other end to it so the foil fits tightly – do this with all the foil pieces

12 – Melt the black chocolate per package directions and put it into a small plastic baggie

13 – Cut the tip off a corner and pipe a small number 2 on top each Twinkie back by the foil
