When I was a kid, my mom did the house UP for Halloween. Actually, she did the house up for every holiday. I would never be surprised to get presents for St. Patrick’s Day – despite not being Irish at all – and seeing the bins of decorations go up in a timely fashion for every holiday. Then there were birthdays, where we got balloons and garland, and the “junk” cereal of our choice. My mom is an artist/art teacher and loves all holidays, while I sometimes give in to moods or lack of moods, and I’m not quite up to her gusto. That said, I still forget how exciting Halloween is for my kids. ALL holidays excite them so much.
Over the weekend, which brought the first crisp air of fall, I would have thought Scarlet would choose to play with all her Shopkins or watch a movie with Cassidy – all weekend-only things – but she was beyond excited to go Halloween party shopping with me at Stop & Shop. We are having company the weekend before Halloween, and we want to have a little Halloween party. Stop & Shop in Northampton is a favorite store of mine – because it has a Starbucks right in it, and has great organic aisles. I make no mistake that it’s often my first choice if I want to go to just ONE store for EVERYTHING I need. I love other stores, but I can’t always find that perk. Enter Stop & Shop. Just look at this pumpkin section! It blew us away:
When planning a pre-Halloween or even on-Halloween party, we usually go easy with food, and also get some festive favorites. When planning a party with kids, and for kids, it’s pretty awesome to get their input during the shopping trip:
Those were a few of our favorite things. We brought home two bags of groceries and decorations, and even though Halloween is over a month away, the kids were so excited to surprise Cassidy with Halloween decorating when he came home from work on Monday night. Stop & Shop is our go-to place for all fall and Halloween entertaining needs. I couldn’t believe how many pumpkin products there were! It was such a perk not to have to run all over town to find some of our favorite things.
Here are the fall and Halloween decorations the kids loved the most:
Lastly, our favorite Halloween decoration of all! This cat comes in purple or black. When we were scanning it at the register, the cashier exclaimed, “Oh, I want this too!” I sincerely hope she got her own Halloween cat:
