Wherever I May Roam.

I’ve got travel on the brain.

Probably because I’m about to set forth on my first vacation with my family of four. My first vacation in three years. My first flight in three years. Des’ first time on a plane. Scarlet’s first time on a plane, while she has storable memories. She’s actually been on quite a few flights, but I’m pretty sure she’s not quite prepared for this JetBlue flight over dark and cold clouds, all the way to Orlando. Every seat has a TV. We’re packing our bags with special treats and books. She has no idea what she’s in for…

…and I can’t help feeling that she’ll happily adapt and accept every new beginning of this journey.

I’m traveling today, over to Nicole’s place. Oh yes. And I’ll be telling you about my process of shooting motion/action shots, because Nicole inspires that in me. Please find me there today, and I’d be most happy. Link.. HERE.

I’ll be visiting other sites this week too, and I’m pretty excited about that. Stay tuned!

And of course, my non-virtual traveling is my reward at the end of this cold and snowy week. And Florida, we are so ready for you. We’re leaving some of this behind – this rainbow-pajamas, snowflakes-on-tongue world. And that’s ok. We’ll be back.

  1. Oh my gosh, adorable photos. Love that one of them standing in the trees and snow <3 Your trip sounds exciting, can't wait to see the photos that will come from a trip to FL! Gonna head on over to Nicole's place!

  2. I am so excited that you’re about to escape to warm weather. Please have a ton of fun and wear the BEST of your cute sundresses while you’re there.

I love that Des has socks on his hands for mittens. I’m pretty sure we did the same thing with Malone for his first “real” winter.

    • It’s supposed to be in the 60’s, which to them is very cold. To me, it’s much better than 100 degrees at Disney! However, I’m worried my cute sundresses won’t be needed.
A fellow preschool friend told me about the socks for mittens! It works!

    • Two days!! (but who’s counting?) Thank you. I’m really so excited. I’m a bit nervous too, for sure, because it’s all so new and exciting and journey-ous. (I made up that word)

  3. Hooray! I’m so excited for you and I’m sure both of your kids will love the flight – it’s part of the adventure!
Grumpy cat face is the best 🙂

  4. I love the Metalica reference in the title :-). Have a great trip. It’s the perfect time to abandon the Northeast. I love these pictures. The black and white of the boys is a beauty! I will definitely check out your post on the other sight.

    • Yay, you’re the first to either catch it or admit you caught it! Metallica forever!
We really can’t wait – thank you. I used to say that the only way to get through a New England winter was to leave it for 1-2 weeks.

  5. Umm…. Cassidy’s hat? Get out of here! That is hilarious. Have a wonderful trip to Florida! Soak up all that warm weather and sunshine for the rest of us, okay? My only advice for Des on the plane is… snacks. Lots and lots of snacks. We took a trip when Josiah was about that age and on the trip home he was completely inconsolable the whole time (!!! it. was. bad.) until the flight attendant took pity on us and snuck us some extra Biscoff cookies. Normally I was all “no my baby won’t eat sugar” but I had never been so thankful for those things as anything in my whole life.

    • His hat is great. I have it in moose form (although it looks like a bull) and Scarlet has the husky/wolf one too. I took Scarlet on a plane at Des’ exact age and the flight attendant gave me a bag of cookies and she rose out of a sleep with her hand reaching like a claw, and she grabbed the bag.
      It made her happy!

  6. So jealous that you get to leave the cold and snow behind for Disney this week. Seriously though have a wonderful trip and cannot wait to hear all about it. So excited for you and your family 🙂 🙂

  7. That last picture is so cute! Baby grumpy faces are the best. 🙂 You will have so much fun at Disney…it’s a madhouse and can be overwhelming for adults and kids alike but I found that if I went slow and didn’t try to do EVERYTHING, I could enjoy the experience. Can’t wait to read all about it!

    • I heard that even during this off-season, it’s still a madhouse. I wonder what it would cost to rent out the whole park for just us! (ah, I kid. There’s no way they would do that)

  8. Y ou’re over at Nicole’s?! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?! I love Nicole! I’m headed over there right this minute. Love your snowy photos! They make me jealous because we’ve got…nothin’. –Lisa PS. You’re going to have a great trip!

  9. OMG! That first photo of Scarlet and that second one of Cassidy and Des took my breath away! You have such beautiful and incredible talent, Tamara! I hope you all have a magically wonderful time at Disney!

    • Thanks! I love her dresses.
Yes, even if it’s 50 degrees, I’ll still be happy. And I do think we’ll get some warmer temps than that. Just a day in the sun. Sigh. I honestly have forgotten what that feels like.

  10. You’re gonna have such a great time and it’s such a great time to get out of the cold and yucky snow. Love the pics xxoo

    • Thanks! I think it’s a must-have thing to survive winter. Leave it! Even a week in the middle might refresh enough to withstand until April…or more realistically around here..May!

  11. Haha! I love those photos, and I like how you mentioned that every TV has a seat! LOL. I am so excited for your trip to Disney…you guys are going to have a blast! Make sure you take LOTS of pictures….(not that I don’t doubt you will…but I can’t wait to see them already!)

  12. Wow, I’m excited for you too!! 😀 I’m sure you’ll have so much fun with the kids and I’d love to see your photos there. Have fun on your trip and take care! 🙂

    • Thanks, Rea! I’m mildly freaking out about the enormity of it all – packing for four, traveling as four, going to theme parks as four. It might be amazing, though!

    • ha..but be honest – what are the chances of that happening?? I actually have more faith in the kids than I do in the flight. Although it’s a JetBlue flight out of Hartford and after the insanity of Newark/JFK for many years of my life, Hartford is mellow.

  13. Oh my goodness, the trip is so soon!! I’m so excited for you! I hope that it warms up in Florida before you get there. Apparently today it is colder in Jacksonville than it is in Alaska. Jacksonville is much farther north than Orlando, though. Either way, all of you are going to have a wonderful time. Yes, there will be stress, but there will also be lots of smiles (and lots of PICTURES I hope)!

    • Seriously, even 32 degrees sounds ok to me! It’s four degrees here today. It’s just insanity. I’d take the predicted 60’s very happily. If it gets to 70’s, ooh boy! Even 80’s…party time!!
Oh, and you know there will be photos galore!

  14. Beautiful photos – 🙂 Have fun in Orlando, I love Florida! 🙂 Have a wonderful flight with your daughter and I’m sure you two will have a blast! I think you ought to frame the black & white photo of your husband and precious son as well as the 3rd one when they’re laughing outside – they both made me stop and just smile. Love it! Happy Hump Day Tamara! -Iva

    • I’d love to frame it! What’s funny is that it was just a test shot, but I love it. They were just helping me test my equipment.
Thanks so much, Iva!! Headed to visit you next.

  15. So cute!!! I love your husband’s hat too! You guys are going to have such a great vacation and I can’t wait to see all of the pictures from it. I have a feeling there’s going to be some fabulous princess shots! I’m going to head over and check out your guest posts too!

    • The hat. Isn’t it great? He wears it to work, in public, at home, wherever. He wears it proudly and without apology. (not that anyone should apologize for what they wear?) Anyway. Thanks!!!

  16. I didn’t use too much of the sun on my trip, so there’s plenty for you and yours. Use responsibly. And if you see Cinderella, ask her if she’s into long walks down the buffet and Diana Krall records. If so … tell her about Coach Daddy.

    • It’s totally possible that we won’t be using a lot of sun either, but reports are preliminary and I’m hopeful that with seven days there, one or two will be grand? (seven would be great too)
I’ll definitely be seeing Cinderella, so I’ll pass on your message!

    • I flew a lot as a kid, with having grandparents in Florida. I love this flight because it’s not long. Scarlet has flown to California TWICE, and that’s six hours long!

  17. Okay, Cassidy’s hat is just awesome! I hope Scarlet loves her plane ride. (And that it’s good for you too!) My 19 year-old was 5 when she first rode on an airplane. I still remember her looking out the window at the cars on the highway below and saying “Mama, there are toy cars down there!”

    • How cool! Scarlet was on a plane as a newborn (slept the whole way) and again as a toddler a few times. We had to have books and snacks for that one. This is a night flight so maybe he’ll sleep on me. (wishful thinking)

  18. I’m so excited for you and your family, Tamara – you will have a magical time! Yesterday my kids spent the whole day (no school – so truly the whole day) making lists of all the Disney attractions and organizing all their Disney pins. Then they watched videos of the rides – I actually heard them laughing as they virtually rode them. And we don’t go until April! Safe travels to all of you.

    • So much fun! Scarlet made me show her ride videos on YouTube, but I didn’t want to do so many because she’s never been there, and what happened to a lot surprise?
      Granted, I hate surprises.
Do you know if we’ll be able to walk into the castle? I heard they close it mid-morning for a Mickey show but I’d love to just be able to walk in, and I don’t know if that requires special passes or plans.

      • Yes, you can walk through the castle (unless it’s changed in the last two years). We’re excited for the new part of Fantasyland – my kids wouldn’t watch any of those videos because they wanted to be surprised. I love that there will be something new for them to see.

  19. Des and Daddy are too cute for words. let me know how the plane trip goes. I got the all clear to take the family to universal in August and I need a good plan battle plan!! Safe travels, extraordinary memories and we will miss you terribly. Enjoy every moment, even the inevitable meltdowns 🙂 Seriously have the most fun. and see if you can get scarlet to take a pic in her favorite dress with the live cinderella? 🙂 That would be awesomesauce.

    • I’ll let you know! But I will tell you that I’ve flown with Scarlet three times so far (six in all when you count round trip) and she’s a pro. It’s Des I’m a bit worried about. He’s a wiggle monster! It’s a night flight so will he sleep on me, or will he freak out on me?
      I’m bringing lots of snacks!

  20. Look at all of his teeth! I remember when he had like 1 or 2 tooth buds! I love watching them grow up! When are you leaving and for how long?! I think it’s going to be the best trip ever for Scarlet. I hope it is for all of you, really. 🙂

  21. I love those pictures…my favorites are the one with Cassidy and the two of them where no one is looking and the one where Des is looking at Cassidy’s hat. Enjoy the sunshine! And I am heading to Nicole’s now! PS. Every seat having a tv is a good thing for entertainment, although not with a preteen who has access to R rated movies on a red eye. While mom and dad slept, said child watched Hangover 2 (because mom and dad said no at home).

    • haha! That reminds me of when we snuck and watched Howard Stern once, while my parents were watching it on the other tv in the other room. Something gross happened and we all yelled, “Eww!” My parents came running in. Busted.

  22. So excited for you and them and your travel!! It will be amazing and hard and awesome all at the same time 🙂 we did JetBlu on our recent trip too and those TVs were fantastic!

  23. Beautiful photos as always ! I love those Cassidy and Des pics especially the one in which they were laughing together so cute. Loved your post at Nicole’s. Thanks for the tips 🙂

    • That’s it – suspense is totally building. And I’m supposed to go out and meet friends today! Not sure how I’ll accomplish it all but we’ll see..

  24. Your photos are always such a treat. I love the moments you catch. My favorites are the ones of Cassidy and the kids–they look so delighted, and Cassidy looks so delighted with them. It’s just so beautiful.

That flight is going to be so fun! I bet there will be lots of kids going to Disney!

    • Honestly, that is life with them. If I wasn’t always taking photos, that would still be what it’s like with Cassidy and the kids. They have a ton of fun together!
And you’re right – I didn’t think about how a plane to Orlando might be filled with excited kids. I remember my flight to Vegas once was filled with people ready to PARTY! They were even pre-gaming on the flight. And once I flew to New Orleans with a very drunk bachelorette party. At..6:00 am. Maybe they hadn’t gone to bed yet?

      • Oh that brings back good memories of the “tipsy trolley,” which was our nickname for the LAST train out of Penn Station back to Jersey on Saturday night. It was technically early Sunday morning. You did NOT want to miss that train, and it was so entertaining to people watch.

    • I actually remember taking Jet Blue flights when they first started in 2003/2004 – something like that. It was mind blowing. And they do have more room in every seat. It’s a fact!

  25. I’ve always got travel on my brain, haha. i’m excited for you, for your trip to Disney. I like Jetblue, and also their competitor – Virgin America.

  26. Oh the cuteness! Your family is beautiful. So excited to hear about the trip. My daughter at Scarlet’s age enjoyed the flight, but hated the ear popping. I let her chew gum for the first time. She was soo excited. Not sure how much it helped…but it kept her swallowing 😉 The weather here in FL is beautiful (although a little cold for my liking). The highs in Tampa today will be 64, but it is so sunny and beautiful. Orlando’s weather is usually similar to ours. Enjoy your vacation!

    • Wow, Scarlet has never chewed gum before so that would be a big deal for her! I just get overwhelmed when I think about walking through the airport with our fifty gazillion things.
64 sound so good to me! 19 here..as a high.

  27. I am so excited for you and your trip!! I hope you enjoy every little bit of it. Please take lots of pictures of the sunshine for those of us stuck in the freezing cold!

  28. YES! I’m so glad that you and the fam are getting to escape (if only temporarily) all that dreaded cold and snow! Have tons of fun in sunny Florida! Hope that vortex doesn’t follow you all there!

  29. Ohhhh! I am so excited that after three long years, you get a freaking vacay! So FUN! Better pack that sunscreen! I cant wait to see your plethora of amazing pictures when you return. Yes that is a grumpy cat face! lol, and on a side note: your daughter’s eyes are captivating. I feel like she can see right through me. Watch out for that one!

    • The sunscreen…YES! I even bought lip balm with spf 30. I remember getting a lipburn once. Not fun. My daughter can TOTALLY see right through you!! Ah..just kidding! She does use those eyes to get what she wants. Or she doesn’t even know she’s doing it yet but if they fill with tears, I seriously consider handing her a puppy and cotton candy.

    • Joi, I’ll be tweeting you from my paradise to yours. If you’re having a lot of fun, feel free to ignore me for a few days and enjoy the heck out of your trip!

  30. Have a blast at Disney World! I can’t wait to see all your amazing photos. Oh, and FYI..people are saying it can take a couple hours to meet Anna and Elsa. I’d still wait! Natalie is aching to meet them. Safe travels as well. I’ve never flown Jet Blue but I’ve heard it’s a nice airline. We usually fly Southwest.

  31. Great photos as usual. I just returned from Florida. It was nice enough to sit by the pool (on the beach) with no jacket and bare feet. I returned home Tuesday to snow and single digit temps. Dang!

  32. Beautiful photos! I love that last grumpy cat face too.
How exciting you guys are going on a trip! Gosh it’s been so long for me. But yay for a new adventure for your little one!

    • Yeah, three years for me! And my last trip wasn’t really for fun, so much as making sure my daughter met her great-grandparents for what I thought might be her only chance.
      However this trip. Total vacation!

  33. New here (referred from Ilene’s blog) but wow, your photos are amazing Tamara!

Enjoy your child’s first flight (my child’s first flight was on JetBlue too) but beware, Nickelodean may get your kid hooked on “Full House” (like it did mine). This could be a good or a bad thing….

    Safe flight!

    • haha! Well it would totally just remind me of my own “Full House” obsession from 1987..not much older than my daughter is now.
And John Stamos STILL looks dreamy, right?
Thanks for stopping by! Thanks to Ilene for the referral! My link to match hers hadn’t been up yet.

  34. I love the Des and Cassidy pics, especially the ones with the wolf hat. Des is so expressive and his face just lights up! We haven’t taken a flight yet with Jack and I’m not sure when we will, I’m dreading him not being able to sit still and yelling the whole time. I know there are parents who can handle that, but I don’t feel like one of them. I can’t wait to hear about how it all goes for you!
