Those Crazy, Stressful Holiday Times.

Every year without fail, the Christmas spirit finds me. It floats into my life and transforms me until January or so.

I never know when it’s going to hit. Or what, where, why and how either. It just happens. It can be large. Last year was when I was riding a holiday-themed train at a local park. I was wearing Des against me in an Ergo and the train was loudly, LOUDLY playing “Frosty the Snowman.” I looked at Scarlet’s grinning face and that’s when it hit me. Often, it’s something more subtle.

A gingerbread smell wafting out of a coffeeshop. My favorite tiny rainbow holiday lights arranged on a neighbor’s tree.

The right Christmas song on the radio. For me it’s “Carol of the Bells.” Sigh.

It could be seeing the farmer down the street dressed like Santa every Sunday of December, leading dressed up llamas up and down the streets. This is Santa, me and “Llama Madonna.” I kid you not. Apparently there’s also a Llama Cyndi Lauper!

And on behalf of Llama Madonna, Santa and my co-hosts (see below), I welcome you to this week’s edition of Ladies Only Blog Share Link Party: Crazy, Stressful Holidays. Do you find yourself in chaos? Is your hardwood floor riddled with pine needles? Have you not even started your holiday shopping? Do you find yourself short of breath in general, when your kids are screaming (each in one of your ears), the holiday lights are blinking on and off, and you haven’t even begun to shop for your parent’s gifts?

Fear not. Take a deep breath. Read and/or share a post about these crazy holidays. Baking and decorating ideas, gift ideas, recipes, funny holiday stories..especially that last part. Share your funny and/or crazy, stressful holiday story.

I know we all have them..

Those Crazy, Stressful Holiday Times. — 90 Comments

  1. I love driving around the neighborhood with my kids looking at lights and decorations. Tomorrow, my daughter is bicycle riding in the holiday parade on the island. Now that's a first. I have not even make a gift list yet. Think I'm a little behind?

    • We were JUST talking about that! I did it last night, sort of accidentally, because I was dropping off a client’s DVD in a neighborhood I don’t know. It was foggy but so many beautiful lights! I’m going to take Scarlet tonight.

  2. I have to say you look adorable with that pink peacoat next to Santa and the llama. I never would have thought a llama….maybe a cow..or a hourse..not a llama. 🙂

    • Thanks, Brittnei! I love my pink peacoat. I was matching Llama Madonna. And I hear you on that one. This llama farm is really close to our house and imagine my surprise to see them milling about one day.

  3. The holiday season has totally taken hold and hit me and like you love seeing the looks on my girls' faces as they see or hear something that goes along with this time of the year. It is all about them and their reactions that make it that much sweeter to me. Thank you as always for co-hosting. All linked up and wishing you a great weekend now. Kevin is off today and I think we may get to finally see Frozen!! 🙂

  4. Perfect day for it!! Cold and rainy here. I can't wait to hear what you think. It must be fun going with TWO kids! Scarlet was on my lap the whole time, even though I paid for two seats. And she was a little overstimulated, but mostly really into it.

  5. That is a great way to enjoy Thanksgiving. Since I have never cooked really, no one expects me to do it on Thanksgiving! The only progress I've made over the years is that I'll make a dessert or side dish. Sometimes.

  6. That llama is the best! And how awesome is it that your neighbor does that every Friday in December. The older I get, the more I admire people who go out of their way – take the time, the effort – to do little things like that. And to the kids who experience it and form precious memories around it, it's a big thing.

  7. Ohhh, I love Carol of the Bells. Christmas music makes me ridiculously happy. And it always ticks me off when the radio stations stop playing it 1 minute after Christmas Day is over. Between Christmas and New Year's is the best time to play it because you're trying to hold on to the holiday spirit. And now I really want a Dunkin Donuts Hot Chocolate. With real whipped cream. Yum!

    • Mm..mmm..real whipped cream is one of my favorite foods. Which is probably weird but I can't help myself.

Still waiting for the inspiration to strike. Maybe I need to listen to Carol of the Bells a few dozen times.

  8. That is the BEST shot. Miles was sitting next to me whining about something (everything!) and I showed him the picture. Instant smile, whining gone. Christmas is magic. Thanks Tamara!!

    • I wonder if he has a Llama Debbie Gibson. There needs to be a third to make a female 80's pop star trifecta!

No haircut for Des!! That's a very old photo.

  9. The holidays stress me out every year! Until they’re upon us of course, and then I can relax. I think that’s why I like Thanksgiving so much. I never have to cook and I get to relax!

    • hahaha!! Right?? I totally thought the same when I met Santa and Llama Madonna. I thought..didn’t you mean..the Madonna who doesn’t wear beads and feathers?

  10. Loooove your descriptions! Your description of the train and the loud music and Scarlet's grin was enough to put me in the Christmas mood! And that farmer is so awesome…dressed up llamas? I would die. Love that pic you got with Santa, hilarious lol.

    • Cassidy just reported back that he saw him last Sunday, making the Santa/Llama rounds downtown. This is what makes my husband different than I am. He took five days to tell me something crucial!!

  11. Oh my gosh that picture is hilarious! A Llama and Santa, and gorgeous YOU right in the middle. That is AWESOME! Thanks so much for hosting such a wonderful party, I am all linked up again 🙂

    • I love the llama too! I have a pink peacoat, a purple peacoat and a red peacoat. And that completes my peacoat trifecta. I would love a royal blue one like the one on my friend’s fashion blog.

    • Get a peacoat, Eli! It will change your life.
This year is Llama Miley Cyrus, sadly, so I think that Farmer Santa probably has his hands full with coming up with a proper costume.

  12. I love the Christmas season, it’s that one time of the year when I can relax and really enjoy the family. That time of the year when you sit back and reminisce about all that you did, what you should have done and could have done. The music takes me back to the good old days when my dad was around and my siblings and I would sit and listen to his jokes. I so miss those days. btw Des is a darling even without hair.

  13. I really needed to hear this. As you can see from my post…it is so hard to remember why in all of this. Thank you for your beautiful words.

(PS- I can’t figure out how to Pin to the board? What am I doing wrong?)

  14. OMG, I thought Des’ current swoop was from the beginning of time. I bet you did cry. I’m going to click the video next to see if it does it for me. It was 82 degrees here today and I told the song Baby It’s Cold Outside to shut up. #scroogy

    • You just made me laugh out loud. Inappropriate song for you today! I have to show you photos of Des when he was a wee thing. He had pretty bad male pattern baldness.

  15. OHMYGOSH that man is AMAZING with the llamas!!! He does it EVERY Sunday in December??? Oh what a gem he is!!!! TOO SWEET!!! He needs a post all his own… seriously.

I just lovelovelove people like him. 🙂

It sneaks up on me too- the spirit. It always finds me… somehow…in the midst of it all.

  16. I haven't really gotten into the holiday spirit this year. It doesn't help that Elf hasn't played once. Or any of the Santa Clause movies. What's up with that?!?

  17. Llama Cyndi Lauper and Madonna … that is epic! I am so glad that the Christmas spirit has found you my love. I am excited because we are going to put Christmas lights on the house today {my first ever!!!} I have some decorations up already but demanded lights around the house and the trees in the front yard. I'm stoked. I almost can't wait for Rey to get up from her nap!

  18. Lamas are so cool! Even better a llama in a costume! I am so digging the holiday season, the music, the movies, the food! I'm trying to stay calm, it's so hard to get anything done in between the parties and get togethers.

  19. Today it hit me when we were outside in the two inches of snow that fell in about 30 minutes. Everything was white and my kids were prancing around in their extremely colorful, mismatched snow clothes. So happy.

    • That sounds delightful! And that weather is heading our way so maybe I’ll get the full force tomorrow. I got Des’ snow boots out of the basement today. It got serious.

    • I used to live in SF and they weren't there! And they had so many better things. Peet's and many local businesses. I think I missed what I couldn't have. Now I live in a town with at least four Dunkin Donuts.

  20. What an awesome neighbor!!! I love his llama, and you look adorable with it. The holidays snuck up and bit me this year. We just have so many weird things going on right now. My husband has the cable tv Christmas music station on 24/7. He leaves it on for the dog, even when we aren't here. 🙂
