Looking for the perfect, refreshing, anytime-of-year party drink? This recipe calls for refreshing mint, sweet strawberries, tart lime, and 7UP. #7Waysto7UP

As far as parties go around here, I think we’re pretty top-notch! No party here is complete without party snacks, party laser lights, and party drinks. My husband makes top-notch drinks – with alcohol or without – and will wrap anything in bacon!

Let’s talk about drinks, though. We are mojito people around here. Cassidy likes mojitos with rum, and I don’t, but somehow we have a recipe that is so versatile that it can be enjoyed by everyone – regardless of having rum or not. One of the key ingredients is 7UP – and it’s the perfect way to share good times at parties, celebrations, events, or even just a night-in by mixing up our normal routine. Our frozen slushie drink can be enjoyed during the warm months that I love so much:

And during the cold winter months, when you need a drink that is both soothing and energizing all at once!

Snow day drink! What I love is that the mint is refreshing, the strawberries are sweet, the lime is tart, and the 7UP is the perfect, versatile complement to our mixed drinks. It provides more flavor and tastes sensational which makes this a wonderful anytime drink. Whether you use 7UP in a fun cocktail or mocktail, a fruity or citrus punch, or even in baking or marinade food recipes, I’ve found incredible uses for it in every form. What I LOVE is my creative mixed drink – Strawberry Mojito Slushies.

Recipe Time:

  3. 2 Tbsp sugar
  4. 1 lime juiced
  5. Lime wedges for garnish
  6. 4 cups ice
  7. 1 cup fresh strawberries
  8. 4 ounces rum of choice (1/2 cup) *Optional

Easy, right? I don’t know what it is about the drink, but the color, taste, and texture make me happy. I’m proud to serve this drink at any party or social gathering at my house, and also happy to bring the ingredients to a party elsewhere.

I first introduced this drink at a party over the holidays.

It was the first time in EIGHT years that we had made it to one of their “famous” parties. Maybe I should say infamous, because they generally end with my dad blasting AC/DC as loud as it can possibly get – until it doesn’t sound like music anymore – and then the generation above me (and below) rocks themselves to sleep. It rocks, so to speak, and I’m happy to say that after all this time, my parents still party like the best of them! After the party we went to a friend’s wedding in PA.

Back to the party, though! It was our first holiday party of quite a few this December and I was in charge of beverages. I LOVE being in charge of beverages. Then I can go and charm my parents and their friends with these beauties:

LOOK: a real snowflake landed on one!

Winter Squash Cheesy Sausage Bake

The deed is done! We took Halloween by storm, as usual.

Halloween is an odd duck. It sneaks up on me and enchants me, and in some ways it’s my favorite holiday. In other ways, it’s during my least favorite time of the year – post-foliage and right before turning the clocks back – that I don’t experience that giddy sleeplessness I feel before other big holidays. And yet, the atmosphere and the spirit are nearly unmatched. I might forget it’s coming for days and weeks before it, but once it comes, I’m totally IN it. We’re so very Halloween people:

Except that life happens. I’m near-sighted to begin with, so once night falls and I’m wearing a mask over my eyes? I can only pretend I know what’s going on. Des, who is four, was a pretty un-cranky buttered waffle, but he had to walk around for four hours! He was hungry! Scarlet was cold and hungry. I was warm and hungry. Cassidy was sore and hungry. The best part of coming home, other than raiding the kids’ candy, is knowing we have a great dinner to eat. Luckily, I was already prepared:

While the family was putting together warm socks and fuzzy hats, missing batteries and costume accessories, I was putting together an autumn casserole. I’m such a fan of warmer, richer, more comforting meals this time of year, that I wanted to perfect a squash, cheese, sausage and pasta baked casserole. The kitchen smelled amazing. The recipe was easy enough. The icing on the cake was a post-bath Cassidy shaking off his sore muscles from being trapped in a cage all night (see photo above) and being delighted by the casserole. It wasn’t hard, guys! I went to Shop & Shop and got a squash, some extra spices, and then my favorite Barilla Pasta, Johnsonville Sausage, and Galbani Cheese. All of the fixings of a perfect fall meal.

Now individually, these are all favorite foods. Why? Johnsonville Sausages make recipe prep easy because all of the spices and flavors are already built in. They can be used in sandwiches, soups, chilies, pizza, and of course – pasta dishes.

Then there’s Galbani Cheese. Mozzarella cheese is my favorite, and it’s hard to choose a favorite. The new low moisture cylinder is perfectly shaped for shredding/grating, and I was able to easily shred it for my recipe.

Barilla Pasta is Italy’s #1 brand of pasta, and it brings Al Dente perfection to every pasta meal.

Now it’s Recipe Time!
