The home renovations finally slowed to a halt, after about five months of displacement and disarray. I know the pets are MUCH happier. The cold snap has lifted and we’re all in better spirits. In fact, even the chickens seem happier lately. They’ve been laying upwards of 11 eggs a day, and we only have 11 chickens! I think that’s what happens when you know you’re loved, and that’s what our pets know. Since the renovations, we bought Athena two new and gorgeous dog beds – on both floors of the house. We also bought Juniper an adorable little cat house that she is sleeping in right now while I write.
It’s easy to love your pet, and it’s also easy to see why there’s a National Love Your Pet Day! It takes place on February 20th, but we’ve been celebrating all week. Not only is it easy to love your pet(s) and easy to see why people made a holiday around loving your pet, it’s easy to love your pet on National Love Your Pet Day, and beyond. Here are 5 easy ways:
1 – Take care of your pets. It’s up to you to keep them healthy and safe, and up-to-date with checkups and vaccinations. Make sure your pets are wearing proper identification, and talk to your vet about responsible care.
2 – Feed at a specific time of day. With our cat, we leave food for her all day, but with Athena, we feed twice a day at the same time. She will tell us when it’s time if we forget! This will make her depend on you, and bond to you more.
3 – Make sure your pet is comfy at home, and feels “at home”. Provide your pet with warmth, food, clean water, toys, a bed, and a litter box (if you have a cat). Give your pet a room or designated space in the home. This ensures comfort.
4 – Have quiet time together. No gadgets, no screens, no devices – just the two of you.
5 – Don’t just play with your pet. Keep it special and engaged.
Winter has been a big bummer lately, right? We had some warm days, but now it’s back to the cold. One thing that always keeps me warm? My pets. We get couch snuggles, early morning wake ups, and fun walks in the park. Pets enrich our lives in so many ways, and you notice it even more in the middle of winter. That’s why I’m happy to be thanking them and loving them for their unconditional affection. Tuesday, February, 20th, was National Love Your Pet Day! Purina and Petfinder are helping people to find their perfect loving companions. They have helped more than 2.2 million pets find their perfect match, and they can help you find yours too! According to a survey by Purina, pets provide more than companionship.
54 percent of people have found their pet as an instant conversation starter with someone they are interested in. I remember one of my first conversations with Cassidy was about his dog, Stormy! Furthermore, nearly 6 out of 10 people surveyed said they are likely to consider a person with a dog more attractive. And 1 in 3 people would want to meet up with or talk to someone who has their pet in their dating website photo.
