In case you’re wondering, the song in question is “Feels” by Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean. Guys, I am in SHOCK that the NOW brand is releasing Now That’s What I call Music 64 today! 64! Can you believe it? This has been such a part of my youth, and now it’s part of my kids’ youth too. Music is.. everything. It’s how we bond. Our bodies and our minds are meant to seek out rhythm – whether to create music ourselves – or to just sit back and enjoy it. We start playing music for our children when they’re still in the womb, and we “try” to at least somewhat influence their music selections while we can. And if not influence, we strive to make an impact. We sing. We dance. And we laugh. While we dream.
Do you remember mix tapes the way I do? Not only do I remember mix tapes, and sitting in front of my little bedroom radio for HOURS just to record part of one song, I remember mix CDs even more. Music has changed so much since I changed from child to adult to parent. The way we listen to music has changed so much, it’s almost dizzying. It’s comforting, though, that Now That’s What I Call Music is still picking and packing the biggest and latest hits into perfectly poppy compilations.
I’m not surprised that the NOW brand has sold 100M records and has had a record 19 #1 albums. Crazy, right? And not so crazy. Now 64 is their latest release and you can get it today! This mix features 22 of today’s most popular songs and is available everywhere starting November 3rd (TODAY). I love looking back at all 64 (!!) albums because it’s like a mix tape in a time capsule of what’s cool RIGHT NOW, and it will be a record of this time in our lives. That’s my #1 reason, in fact.
1 – Music makes memories. The strongest ways to jog memories are smells (like perfume/cologne, summer nights, wood smoke, coffee, etc.) and music. These songs you’re listening to with loved ones? They will always make you think of NOW.
2 – Music brings people together. Live music has been around since.. forever.. and hasn’t died down. Even with our abilities to listen to music that’s not live, we still mostly choose to appreciate it with someone else. It creates cohesion.
3 – Music helps us better understand the world and the different cultures in it.
4 – Music helps us be happier and more social.
5 – Music is good for the growing brain, and that includes you too, adults!
It’s been a nutty few weeks lately, with work, home renovations, and days off from school – for various holidays, conferences, etc. It’s so much fun to blast music when my kids have friends over, and I even played Now That’s What I call Music 64 over FaceTime with my nephew. We were all dancing together! Our kids – the new generation – are getting to experience a whole new generation of pop stars dominating the airwaves. This album absolutely helps me understand what music is hot right now. I love that it’s edited to be family-friendly AND parent-friendly. I didn’t know all of the songs..
In fact, this compilation already had two of my favorite songs ever! And that’s Kesha “Praying” and P!nk “What About Us.” And now I have new favorites. I adore Sia, so hearing her in ZAYN f/Sia “Dusk to Dawn” was awesome! Scarlet loves Katy Perry which is why I was dancing like crazy to “Feels.” I’m intrigued by “1-800-273-8255” by Logic featuring Alessia Cara & Khalid. Ah, they’re all so catchy! I love each song for its own unique reasons. What a mix! Just look at this wonder:
- Charlie Puth “Attention” (ATL)
- Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber “Despacito” (Remix) (Rep/UMLE)
- Shawn Mendes “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” (ISL)
