One of the biggest comforts we have in New England is the Floating Hospital for Children.

Last year I wrote about my nephew, Parker, and how exciting and nerve-wracking it was when he finally came home after being born two months early. His NICU adventure was ending, but his life adventure was beginning. Now he’s a one-year-old!

I got a head start on my big sis, and my kids will be five and eight this summer. I’d love to say it gets easier, but in some ways, parenting gets more difficult. We are hard-wired to have concerns throughout life, and that’s why Floating Hospital for Children helps with the concerns. They are a reliable and local source of information for parents like me. What is it? Floating Hospital for Children is the full-service children’s hospital of Tufts Medical Center, and is located in downtown Boston with partnerships in the community. They provide pediatric inpatient and outpatient services in every medical and surgical specialty. And that’s from general pediatric to the care of the most complex cancers, heart diseases, and traumas.

At Floating Hospital for Children, patients are the inspiration. They prove every day that you don’t have to be big to be strong. The Floating Hospital’s strength is its size. It’s a smaller, more intimate environment to allow patients and families to feel comfortable, and to truly experience family-centered care. This year, ticks are expected to be abundant in the Northeast.

While forecasting tick populations is not an exact science, ticks are expected to be abundant because of weather conditions and predictions. Experts encourage people to take precautions every year. Lynne Karlson, MD, Chief of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, shares these helpful tips for preventing tick bites. She also shares tips on what to do if you find a tick on your child:

1 – Use insect repellent containing DEET.

2 – Wear long pants, tucked into socks, and no sandals in the woods.

3 – Check your child every evening for ticks. In order to transmit Lyme disease, the tick must be on for greater than 24 hours.

4 – If a tick is found, use a gloved hand to pull it straight out. Then wash the bite with soap and water.

5 – If you live in a wooded area, get tick tweezers to help remove the bodies of the ticks before they become completely embedded and do damage.

We live in a wooded area, and these tips are vital. We do tick checks before every bath, or before bedtime, in case we don’t do baths every day. I often find that we bring them in the house on our shoes or clothing. Tick tweezers are vital in getting them fully out. We love where we live, and we need to do our part to prevent and treat tick bites for our children.

Go Ranch-Crazy With Tessemae

This is a sponsored post. I was compensated by Tessemae and I received delicious product samples as a member of the Mom It Forward Influencer Network. As always, all thoughts and opinions are so very much my own.

Ranch is America’s #1 dressing, Tessemae’s makes 25 different dressings, marinades and condiments! USDA Organic #NothingHiddenHere #notinOURranch (ad)

There’s something you should know about me.

I’m ranch dressing crazy. I’m ranch dip crazy. If there’s a party, I’m by the dips. I could eat entire meals out of dressings and dips. If I’m expecting ranch, and I take a mouthful of anything else, I’m disappointed! I buy potato chips and vegetables for parties, in the hopes they’ll have good ranch there. I used to try to buy it for myself, to have a party at home, and I came up short every time. It just wasn’t healthy enough. Or it didn’t taste good enough. Or there were too many ingredients and I couldn’t pronounce any of them. It was off-putting and disappointing. Until I tried Tessemae!

Apparently I’m not alone in my love for ranch, because it’s America’s #1 dressing! What many people don’t realize, and I didn’t for many years either, is that most ranch brands are full of sugar, preservatives and artificial ingredients. Tessemae is different. They use only clean, simple, real ingredients, and there’s nothing behind their ranch. You can enjoy your Creamy Ranch completely guilt free. They make 25 different dressings, marinades and condiments – and they use real, whole sourced food ingredients. They are USDA organic, and are available at Kroger. Tessemae is also available at Walmart.

I love my guilty pleasures, but to have one of them be guilt-free is pretty awesome. There are few things I won’t use ranch dressings and dips with. I’ve even been known to dip my pizza into it! It gets my family to eat more vegetables, and I love Tessemae’s many uses. We tend to favor a more natural view on food – whenever possible – so I appreciate these alternatives.

First, we have a red and green salad, in honor of the holidays. I take 1/2 cup of chopped pecans, 6 cups of mixed greens, 2 cups of fresh sliced strawberries, 2 cups of fresh grapes, dried herbs, and then I dress with Tessemae’s ‑ All Natural Organic Creamy Ranch. If you really want to get fancy, you can heat the pecans in a skillet over medium heat, until lightly browned. You can also add cheese on top! This is gorgonzola, but I usually favor other kinds over this. You can go crazy!

Then for an easy party recipe, you just need puff pastry, cheese, bacon, and ranch!
