Did you know that dogs can get bored? They sure can! Here are 5 ways to beat boredom in your dog, especially with interactive toys. #jwpet #ad #holeegourmet

Yes, believe it or not, dogs can get bored.

I was surprised to learn that about our own boisterous yet mellow girl, Athena. During fall and spring, I’m MUCH better about getting her out for her daily walks and hikes at our local dog park. There’s an excitement she gets even from me walking down the stairs from my office. She knows what it means! It means time with other dogs and nature. When we’re traveling or when it’s particularly hot and humid here, as well as icy (dangerous for the hikes, although I have gotten ice shoes), if too much time passes between these big walks/hikes, she gives up. She gives me a certain look on those mornings.

It seems to say, “You’re not going to take me to the park, are you??”

Now, don’t worry. Athena is plenty stimulated on non-park days. We have four acres, 11 chickens, a playful cat, and two kids. That said, during the school year, she gets lost in the shuffle. We obviously don’t want her roaming the four acres alone, although she’s plenty happy to do that (yikes), and she does get bummed when Cassidy leaves for work and I drop the kids at school. The cat tends to nap a lot during the day, the chickens don’t come out of their coop, and I work a lot.

That said, it’s up to me to make sure she’s happy and I take that seriously. Truth is, no matter how often we go to the dog park, there are going to be days we won’t go. Sometimes it rains, sometimes it snows, and sometimes the heat index is too much for both of us. Sometimes the car is in the shop or I’m waiting at home for a lens shipment. And sometimes, the dog park is closed for maintenance or goat landscaping (I kid you not) and it’s best to keep Athena home. During those days, I have found five ways to beat her boredom and make her happy! Ready to hear our dog boredom busters? Of course you are!

1 – The best one and Athena’s favorite – Enrich your dog’s life with the Petmate® JW® Hol-ee Gourmet™ line of interactive dog treat toys. How cool are these? (pictured above) Hol-ee Gourmet is pretty awesome – it’s a durable, rubber, two-in-one treat toy that encourages interactive and rewarding play. Also, it makes treats last longer! It’s available in three different fun designs – a turkey leg, a steak, and a peanut. They’re made with rubber and nylon. What you do is fill the outer Hol-ee shell with larger treats and you can also smear soft, spreadable treats (like peanut butter) on the inner nylon “bone.”

Also, each toy comes with a sample of Himalyan Yaky Puff treats.

The dog toys are available in two sizes, and are high-quality and durable. They are intelligently designed to entertain your dog, stimulate his or her mind, and also withstand dog chewing. My dog can chew for hours without stopping!

2 – Play tug of war with your dog! This is one of my dog’s favorite activities. The best part is that you can attach a rope to your Petmate® Hol-ee Gourmet™ line of interactive dog treat toys. They are so versatile!

3 – Hide treats around the house or in your hands/pockets. This can be played anywhere too. They love “Guess Which Hand”.

4 – Change up your walking routine. The same route can get mundane. I like to take different trails, or reverse directions.

5 – Arrange a play date for your dog. My dog actually has a best friend!

Get Summer Baby Ready with an incredible #giveaway and with the 7 essentials to stock in your diaper bag - all found at your Rite Aid! #ad #RiteAidSummerFun

Do you remember the first time you had to bring your baby out and about, all on your own???

Both of my babies are summer babies, and while I suppose winter has a whole other set of struggles and obstacles, I only know having a newborn baby in the heat! It’s funny how much it changes from your first kid to your second! With Scarlet, my daughter, I remember being intimidated by EVERYTHING. When to go out – before or after feeding (which made no sense because she ate ALL THE TIME) – which car to take, which stroller to take, where to go, and what to do when I’d get there.

With my second baby, my son, I was much more confident of carriers, gear, and strollers.

Although by then, I also had a toddler to contend with. And I remember all too well carrying my son in his infant seat in one hand, and a toddler hoisted up on my other hip. OR, my son in a carrier on my stomach, and my daughter hoisted over my shoulder. You can’t make this stuff up! Parenting can be hard. Parenting on-the-go during the hot months can be harder.

Luckily for all of us, there are things that make our lives easier.

I have been perusing the aisles of Rite Aid for as long as I can remember. There, you can find everything you need for summer on-the-go, like sunscreen and towels, sunglasses and aloe, all sorts of personal care products galore. At Rite Aid, you can also find everything you need for summer on-the-go with a baby! This is much different. Summer is all about outdoor fun, at the picnic, the park, or the zoo, so Rite Aid and Pampers are teaming up to get you all the summer essentials you’ll need for a day out with your baby. And don’t forget to enter the giveaway below to win your own summer essentials!

7 Items to Put in Your Diaper Bag:

1 – Pampers diapers. Why? This leads to a leak-free summer day! Pampers Cruisers have unique Extra Absorb Channels to help distribute wetness evenly, so your baby will stay drier while you’re on-the-go. They also don’t sag like ordinary diapers.

They feature a unique 3-way fit that adapts at the waist, legs, and bottom, so your baby has the freedom to play all day.

2 – Pampers wipes. In truth, these are not just for babies. I pretty much have bought them consistently for eight years now, and I can’t imagine not having them? They come in handy for everything when you’re on the go!

4 – Snack Catcher cup. Have you ever used these? They are brilliant! Grab them at Rite Aid and take them everywhere you go. I didn’t have any with my daughter, but luckily someone got me them for when I had Des. Babies snack constantly!

5 – A diaper changing kit. For us, this is diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, plastic/sealed bags, and a changing mat that you can use on-the-go. I also always include an extra set of clothes and tissues. This is really important to have.

6 – A mini bag of first aid/safety items. This includes nail clippers, bandages, sunscreen, diaper rash cream, lotion, antibiotic cream, pain reliever/fever-reducer, teething pills, and whatever else you want to have on the go.

Now it’s Giveaway Time!
