I Accept These Awards!

I’m not sure if you even know this, but I’m buried under a pile of work. For real.

You know how I sometimes do data entry? Well my record to date has been 2,000 surveys. That’s a lot of surveys to input, and I once did it when I was postpartum with Des, with a sinus infection to boot. Oh, and then I got an allergic reaction to the penicillin used to treat the sinus infection. Fun times. 2,000 surveys. 2,000! This project I’m doing right now? It’s 5,000. I might die of data entry. My office is filled with business boxes. The cats think the surveys are their personal play things.

The surveys are no one’s play things!

I also have to finish a very lengthy photo job – it was something ridiculous like 800 photos. Help me. So if I’ve been slow to visit your blogs, or slow in general, that’s why. The kids aren’t sick anymore. The roof is no longer leaking. I had a great weekend, but I’m buried under a pile of work. And I will still visit! Don’t make me stay away. I don’t skip really good chapters of books, and I don’t skip episodes of shows, so why would I skip your blog? I just might not comment if you rarely comment here because I’m petty like that. What can I say? I have very limited time these days. Marriage and parenting and work.

So I wanted to take a moment, or a whole post, to acknowledge and accept some awesome blogging awards I’ve received in the last several weeks. I tried to write them all down, but I lost my notes, so this is mostly from memory. If I forgot any of you, I’m so sorry! First we have Echo who nominated me for a One Lovely Blog Award! We have Lisa who nominated me for a Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Charlotte nominated me for the same. Then Mrs AOK nominated me for a Sisterhood of The World Bloggers Award. She gave me ten questions to answer, which I’ll do, after these seven random things about myself which one of the awards asked me to do! (I can’t remember which) So here I go, and let these be as random as possible:

Seven Random Facts About Me:

1. I have a huge sweet tooth, as you all know, but breakfast is best when salty for me. I love eggs, toast, potatoes and bacon. Then I love to get a taste of sweetness with coffee I sweeten with maple syrup. This is just when I go out, though. During the week, it’s not so glamorous. While we’re on the subject of food, I have a wicked fast metabolism. I’m never full for more than two or three hours, and then I’m ready again. I eat slowly and only until I’m 70% full. I can’t eat at all when I’m anxious. And there you have it – why I’m 112 pounds. I think it’s all really about genetics, though. Dinner is an afterthought to me. I am much more into breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, snack and dessert. That was all way too much information!

(These are pumpkin pancakes with pumpkin whipped cream that we got for breakfast the other day. I only had a few bites!)

2. My inclination is to drink liquids easily, or to chew and swallow food. I have very little use for smoothies or milkshakes because the consistency throws me off. I get very confused as to whether I’m supposed to eat or drink them!

3. No matter how good a recipe looks, I probably won’t pin or make it if it contains cream cheese. I don’t even have a disgusting origin story about cream cheese – like getting sick from it. In 7th grade, I got in a cream cheese fight with one of my friends and she smeared it in my hair. I had to smell it all day and I’ve never been able to eat it since.

4. When I lived in San Francisco, I joined a co-ed book club and we called ourselves “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Book Club” because most of us were young and single. One member was married with a kid and that was bewildering to the rest of us.

5. One thing that makes me really happy in this world is a good salad bar. I will travel great distances for a great one. What makes it good? Good and healthy greens, attention to detail (broccoli that’s lightly steamed for a better consistency than raw), good cheeses, cut up hard-boiled eggs, seeds and homemade dressing. There are a lot of good salad bars in western MA.

6. Up until a college film internship, I truly thought I would be a filmmaker even though I had absolutely no skills, no experience, and no confidence at all. I seriously thought it would just magically happen for me because my heart told me so.

7. I had never had a panic attack in my life until just before I moved to San Francisco. I was driving and had to pull over into a church parking lot and catch my breath. Both before and after that, I always prided myself on not having panic attacks even though I had anxiety. My anxiety was more of the stomach variety and I called it “anxiety attacks.” I know I’ve come very close but I’m not positive I’ve had a full panic attack since that one in 2007.

And now, quick answers to Mrs AOK’s awesome questions:

1. Come up with a mathematical formula to express a good day. {Extra points if you add coffee : ) }

Easy wakeup + weekend + romance + leisurely brunch + photography + love – anxiety = a good day.

2. What is the first thing you do every morning?

I check my phone and wonder how much time I still have to sleep.

3. Pretty please take the spirit animal quiz too. Do you agree with your spirit animal per the quiz?

It said I’m “The Wolf”. I like it!

4. What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?

When you REALLY think about it, eating Lucky Charms with all of its chemicals and food dyes is much weirder than eating bugs, right?

5. What are three blogging goals you have for the month of March?

1. Keep on keeping on.
2. Keep on commenting.
3. Keep on loving it.

6. I’m stealing Heather’s question: What keeps you blogging?

What doesn’t? It’s my love. My hobby. Somewhat my job. And the connections are insane.

7. Does your name have a meaning? If so, what? If not, make up your own meaning.

Yes, Tamara = palm tree. Eden = garden. My maiden name is Klein so if you put it together, it means “Little Garden of Palm Trees.”

8. What are looking forward to this weekend?

Warmth and sunshine. The new Cinderella movie. Maybe hitting Vermont’s ice castles before they melt.

9. You can have coffee with anyone, including me ;), who are your three guests? What are we drinking?

1. You.
2. All of my blogging friends tied for first!
3. Tim Curry.

You’re all drinking regular, but I’m going decaf!

10. Would you ever sign up for a reality show? If so, what type or create a name for your show.

I would NOT, but to play along it would be about photographing moose in the wild.

I Accept These Awards! — 112 Comments

  1. Finally catching up myself after the lovely stomach bug that took possession of my body this past weekend and like you feel a bit buried, but still also hopeful that this week willbe better. And by the way, we are so going to see Cinderella when it opens next weekend, too πŸ˜‰

  2. I’m sorry you feel so buried, but if it makes you feel any better, I feel that way too! I seem to never catch up and I don’t get to all my lovely blog friends either. In fact I know I haven’t been over to you for a couple posts, so I couldn’t let this one pass me by. And I am so tired I kept typing bye instead of by and I knew it was wrong, but it took me three tries before I came up with by. LOL

    • Ha!! I have been doing typos too.
I’m soooo behind in commenting and I totally get it. I was being snarky but was no way on earth I was talking about any of my lovely friends! I don’t keep track. I still have to go on my pinning spree from your Friday foodies!

  3. There’s something about cottage cheese that freaks me out. I’m not sure why. Probably a texture thing. I don’t like the smell either. Luckily I didn’t have someone smear it in my hair like your cream cheese incident. Also, we need to go out to breakfast together. I like a big salty breakfast too and my metabolism is insane. πŸ™‚

  4. That cream cheese story! Haha, cracks me up! I only recently realized I kinda liked it although I still can’t understand its taste. I love milkshakes though but it’s funny that it seems like it’s something to eat rather than drink. LOL.

You’ll survive that data entry job, I’m with you on being buried with tasks but we shall overcome! We shall! πŸ™‚

    • It’s a strange taste! I wonder if people make it organic or homemade and it changes things. I’ve only ever had Kraft.
Milkshakes are great but Wendy’s frosty drinks are really confusing to me!

And yes, we will prevail over our work schedules!!

  5. Oh gosh you have so much on your plate right now! I want to see the new Cinderella movie too! I looks very cool. I did not know you didn’t like cream cheese. I guess I had better not come up with a cream cheese cilantro recipe or I might just lose you as a reader! Oh, I love Lucky Charms and never really thought about all the food dyes….Good luck with your tasks this week!

    • Don’t worry, you could never lose me as a reader. Especially not after that hand pies recipe.
I am very tempted to let her cut school and to go see it with her Friday! Somehow I doubt that will fly.

  6. You do sound super busy and it’s ok to not stop by, I would totally understand and you know that. As for Cream Cheese, I can’t eat apples because I’m allergic so no matter how much those apple recipes look, I don’t bother pinning them either. I always love reading your answers to questions because I learn a bit more about you every time. Well here’s to a marvelous week and I hope things get a little not so busy for you.

    • I couldn’t imagine being allergic to apples! I think it’s more common than I know, though. I have a friend who is like that. Although she can eat them baked but just can’t have them raw.

  7. You had to slip in Tim Curry right at the end there, didn’t you? As if I could have loved you any more, but now I have to. Because Frank N. Furter. Let’s do the Time Warp!

  8. Good luck with the mountain of work. A pile of paper can be a fairly discouraging sight. But I know once you dive in and start seeing the boxes empty out, you’ll start to feel better. BTW, I’m also a decaf drinker:)

  9. That is an awesome name for your former book club! When my bookclub formed no one was married and many weren’t in relationships. Now most of my bookclub is married and almost half of us are moms and/or expecting. Man, how times have changed. I love how so many of your random facts centered around food. Food is very important to me πŸ˜‰

  10. I think your speedy metabolism somehow translates your ability to do so much! The idea of all those surveys is giving me a pre panic attack. good luck!

I also would travel far for a good salad bar. I still remember my favorite one from my childhood ! at Steak ‘n Ale of all places πŸ™‚

Love your answer to #10 btw, I’d watch that reality show (and no other thank you very much).

    • Honestly it is freaking me out. Too much data entry.
I remember a restaurant chain called sizzler and they had an incredible salad bar! I wonder why they went out of business.

  11. We love all of your blogs so much Tamara! You compose them and frame them and gift wrap them and present them to us so joyfully. May your well desrved nominations and awards be many. The joy and smiles and laughs they bring to us are many!

  12. Thanks for accepting, sweet lady!
I can totally appreciate a good Beatles reference! πŸ˜‰
Salad bars!! I love salad bars, but my germaphobia….
    Your formula= perfection!
    Perfect goals, I second that!
I wanna go see Cinderella too πŸ™‚
I would totally watch your show!

  13. I can’t stand cream cheese either. I used to go to breakfast meetings and eat a dry bagel because all they had was cream cheese – no butter.

I took a spirit animal quiz too – I’m a deer. Fortunately you and I get along better in real life than our spirit animals do!

    • Yes, I would never eat you!
I think if nothing else, I will eat cream cheese. Usually lwhipped cream cheese. It absolutely has to be cold, though, because it got pretty warm in my hair that day!

  14. I’m also working on a lengthy photo project.. ugh. It kind of saps my enthusiasm for the whole project. Also, it doesn’t help that they paid me for 6 hours of wedding photography then kept me for 8 1/2 hours.. and now they don’t want to pay the extra 2 1/2 hours. What do I do… NOT give the last 2 1/2 hours of photos?!?! lol.. Sometimes being a photographer sucks.. BUT I DIGRESS! Great post as always Tamara… – http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com

  15. I LOVE cream cheese! My husband is disgusted when I pile that stuff on my bagels haha. And Philadelphia sushi is one of my faves! Still, I share a similar sweet tooth as you, so we’re good πŸ™‚

  16. It’s hard to juggle it all! Something usually has to give- but you seem to have your priorities right. I love pumpkin pancakes. we’re actually having them for dinner tomorrow night. Breakfast for dinner. Kids love it. Easy solution dinner. with a tasty buttermilk dressing. But whipped cream sounds good too, and easier:)

  17. I love your answer to a good day. It is the ordinary graces that can tilt your day in the right direction.
Love the pics of the pumpkin pancakes. I would have taken more than a few bites.

  18. I’m the same way about cream cheese – I just don’t like it with one exception – I use it when I do stuffed mushrooms and for some reason don’t mind it then.
I have been in that same place with blogging – right now I’m thankful that I didn’t give up because I need the continuity I find in the blogsphere and with all my blog friends!!!

    • I feel the same way, and I do miss the days in which blogging took up a lot more time.
Sometimes I don’t mind cream cheese. As I was saying above, I like whipped cream cheese and it has to be very cold because of the seventh-grade incident leaving it warm in my hair.

  19. 1. I will never pin a recipe that calls for egg whites. Take the whole egg or nothing at all.

    2. my spiritual animal is the Owl, and it seems to fit pretty well.

    3. We blog so that we can someday have coffee with our favorite bloggers, even if we hate coffee.

  20. Congrats on your awards and I send one – I Love Your Blog So Much – you can paste a pic of Phoenix anywhere you like πŸ™‚ I love breakfast anytime of the day and folks wonder how I eat so much in general – a fast metabolism. I’m a leetle bit more than 112 pounds. Decaf yes for me too – caffeine and anxiety bad combo! Your data entry is epic I hope you can catch your breath soon, Tamara! Have a great day πŸ™‚

    • I remember once that I had a whole cup of regular coffee by accident before a photo shoot. I could not understand why I felt so sick and shaky during it. I thought it was nerves! Just switched bags of coffee.
      Thanks for the award, friend!

  21. Western Massachusetts sounds like a lovely place to live. We have zero good salad bars where I live. I try to stay away from buffets, but I would enjoy eating at a really good salad bar.

    • It’s a super awesome place to live! My sister loves to visit the salad bar at our local co-op. All local and organic stuff. I also like one down the street at the deli.

  22. Just to make you laugh:
LOL!! We tease him endlessly. I’m sure it’s great for his ego!

  23. Are you powered by Energizer?? Because you are inspiring with how much you can get done! I would start crying under the 5,000 surveys or maybe turn them into stacking pieces of art that I could submit to a gallery. Although there perhaps is not much call for office box art these days.Good luck getting through them! Sending good thoughts your way πŸ™‚

    • Can I admit that I did cry the first night I saw them? I am powering through them by thinking about money. It’s like a cartoon character with dollar signs in his eyes. I just keep thinking about the eye on the prize. How I will have money to contribute to a family trip or a lot of sundresses!

  24. I have been in the same boat as you when it comes to blogging and commenting lately – sometimes life just gets in the way! I’m sure you’re still doing a much, much better job than I am though, you are the commenting queen after all!

I’m a massive fan of salad bars too – as much as I love unlimited salad bars I have to say I prefer the type where you only get one go and one bowl, it’s more of a challenge to see how much you can squeeze in there and I don’t think I’ve ever been beaten for fitting the most in one bowl! Haha πŸ™‚

    • That’s a challenge!! I’m pretty good at jampacking them.
Catherine, you have been traveling a lot! And while I haven’t been doing a great job, I do plan to catch up. I definitely want to read your recent ones about travel!

      • If I ever make it to Massachusetts you’ll have to show me all the best salad bars, and be prepared for a who-can-fit-the-most-in-their-bowl-competition!
Despite how fast it’s flown by, we’ve been back how for a full month now, so I can’t really use that as an excuse any more! Haha πŸ™‚

  25. Awesome and congrats on the hefty gig!!! I LOVE that you had romance;) AND I love your salad bars! I’m craving one right now as I type…………….Noho=best salad bars ever! or well wherever that market is I love!

  26. I am such a salty girl when it comes to breakfast too–I make waffles for the guys all the time but I prefer the eggs and the bacon and all the salt. Don’t worry about us, do your work!! I’d get in a lot of trouble if I neglected work for blogs–even though that is what I want to do every day!

    • What I do is I read blogs on my breaks. No one on this earth could do data entry straight through the day!
We have a really awesome farm animal shaped waffler and Cassidy makes these amazing waffles from scratch on the weekends. Everyone eats them and I make myself eggs. It’s so strange because I really do have a big sweet tooth.

  27. Oh yummy, those pancakes! I am a greasy breakfast girl! I love me a good diner like Jakes on King St or Silver Spoon in Easthampton!

    • Now I’m laughing because Cassidy and I went on a date to brunch on Sunday. We are so used to life with kids that we usually get to restaurants early. But we slept in until 10 AM! Tried being seated at 11 AM at Jake’s. What a laugh. Then almost did Silver Spoon, which we’ve never done, but wound up doing to Miss Florence diner.

  28. I’m right there with you with the being slow to visit blogs and such recently. I have been meaning to get by yours for a week or so, but with my rebrand and cranking out content its been difficult to balance everything. Plus, I pretty much took off the month of Feb for many reasons, but in part because I was a little burnt out. I also didn’t feel good and I was still getting my rebrand stuff together. It’s been quite the year already! Bless your heart with the data entry and the 800 photo photography job. Wish I could help!!! I’m so glad I got a chance to stop by and check in. Can’t wait to catch up on the rest of your posts!

  29. You are amazing – seriously. I don’t have nearly the amount of stuff you have going on, and my kids are practically grown up, and I’m still behind. Totally with you on the salad bars. But it must have chopped up hard boiled eggs and ranch dressing. I got really hungry reading this post!

    • Well I’m behind with nearly everything! Trying to catch up. I do read blogs on my breaks from data entry. I can really only do it for a half hour or an hour at a time. Spread out for the day.

  30. Ah… you go girl!!! I get the being totally overwhelmed with work, from a different stand point, but still the same. ACK!! Not. Enough. Time.

Your mention of the awards is brilliant all in one post. I am ashamed to say I have lost track of the awards I have been given, and never have mentioned them on my blog. isn’t that horrible? Ugh…

I would love your metabolism- much like every other woman in the world!! Girl, I do love the way you eat!!!

    • It’s not horrible! I think I’ve been ignoring awards for years, even though I’m always happy about them. It was just a lot at once.
My Metabolism is fierce, but will it always be so? The jury is still out.

  31. I applaud you for even thinking about stopping by other blogs with all you have going on! I seem to shut down, when home/life gets the best of me. I share your love for salad bars…reminds me to check for one this weekend! Your formula for a a good day is awesome!

  32. This was such a fun post to read! I love how you check your phone to see how much time you have left to sleep, I do the same. If it’s more than 20 minutes, you can expect a full on snoozefest. I am out!!! Sorry, you are so overwhelmed with work but it’s actually a good thing!! Hope you get to watch Cinderella, we are going next weekend when Amberly comes over!!

    • I hope you like the movie! I’m really tempted to have her cut school and to go see it on Friday, to avoid crowds, but something tells me that won’t fly well!

  33. Congratulations on your awards! I also admire your blogging goals:). And I agree about the Lucky Charms. Makes me crazy.

    • They could be so much better! You can buy other versions of marshmallow oat cereal that are a bit better. They use natural fruit extracts for the colors of the marshmallows!

  34. That’s a lot of awards you’ve claimed – and I just love all the Q & A!

The name of your book club is hilarious. <3

I love your formula for the perfect day… awesome. Brunch is the best… that's why I often enjoy breakfast for dinner… I can never have enough breakfast.

    Thanks for sharing.

  35. I thought I was the only one with smoothie/shake issues. They’re just not quite satisfying, are they? And 5,000 surveys is a TON. Best of luck with that….

  36. Hey Little Miss Garden of Palm Trees…that in itself is totally coolness. I have no idea what my name means, gonna have to check it out. Well, I hope that the surveys go quickly, so you can get to the photos, love your photos. Speaking of photos, the ones of you that are black and white with the camera…my favorites by far! Love those.

Ha! Here is the definition in the Urban Dictionary for my name…
Quite possibly the cutest, sweetest, and most attractive girl you’ll ever meet. Not only is she pretty and hot, but she has great intellectual insight and is all around a perfect person. No matter what she does, you could never get mad at her. When you see her pictures, her smile, her eyes, you feel not only turned on, but content. Content because you know that she is everything you could ask for.
    “Have you met Nikki?”
“Yes, and I think I want to marry her.”
    “We all do.”

I think that I will own this! LOL

  37. Congrats on all the awards! reminds me I have a few I should acknowledge as well.
I am so behind too. Inspiration comes slower, but I have dumb restless energy. So, I redid my bathroom. of course.

I think the winter blue blahs have hit. ugh. I want warm air, colour back in my world and coffee on my deck in the mornings.

  38. I’ve been slow in reading blogs over the past couple of months. Just when I though I’ve caught up, something always comes up. Sigh. I do the same thing every morning too! I’d squeeze in a 2 minute sleep if I can! LOL

  39. Wait wait wait, what is this decaf you speak of and why? Are you pregnant?

Your recipe for a great day is totally mine, except my minus would probably be something like no losing my patience, cause that’s a pretty frequent. Also, you are an amazing commenter. I went on vacation last week (only for 4 days) and totally failed all week long at commenting on my friends’ blogs!

    • Ha! Definitely not pregnant. I’ve never been able to do caffeine in coffee. It has always made me feel weird or weak or shaky. But since I love the taste so much, I tend to get good decaf. Good quality.
I saw about your vacation! I was envious of both you and RF.
