It's a tale as old as time - the love between a cat and an owner! Find out how to celebrate National Cat Day on October 29th and help rescue shelter pets AD

It’s a tale as old as time – the love between a cat and its owner!

As I write this, Juniper – my super cute cat – is sleeping on the kids’ bean bag chair next to my computer. When I woke up this morning, Junie was sleeping at the foot of the bed on my feet, waiting for me to wake up and feed her. I felt the weight and heat of her while still in my sleep and dreams, and then woke up to find us cuddled together on this cold morning. I have to say – it’s moments like this that make me realize that my heart is big enough to love dogs AND cats. They bring different personality traits, tasks, concerns, joys, and pros and cons to the table, I’m sure, but pet love is love.

And cat love is STRONG.

We got Junie from a shelter in June of 2016. They had a bunch of kittens that day, and Junie’s two brothers had been adopted out earlier that morning. We couldn’t believe she was still there! I immediately had to put a deposit on her, so I’d have 24 hours to think about it, but I already knew we’d be back for her when I was backing out of the parking lot. She was barely two pounds, with huge eyes and tufted ears. She fell asleep on my dress the night we got her, and I fell asleep in an exhausted heap too. I knew she was a welcome addition to our family, and that it would be rewarding raise her from this..

TO THIS!

I love that my shelter cat found a forever home. And I love that Fresh Step Litter has a mission to help every shelter cat find a forever home. Fresh Step Litter has partnered with digital magician Zach King and #LoveWall muralist James Goldcrown to launch their #Catluv campaign. They plan to share the magic of cat adoption for National Cat Day on October 29th. Zach King, James Goldcrown, and a few of Instagram’s favorite cat-lebrities kicked off the Fresh Step #CatLuv campaign at the Amanda Foundation animal shelter in Beverly Hills, California on October 25th. Zach King released a video of his mind-bending magic tricks and his famous feline friend – Prince Michael of Aaron’s Animals.

This video will highlight the magic that cats bring into our lives. You can view it at FreshStep.com/our-purpose.

As for James Goldcrown, he unveiled a colorful mural painted onto a side of the Amanda Foundation shelter. This art installation included his well-known hearts combined with adorable cats! It’s amazing. Fresh Step is thrilled to collaborate with these talented artists to help show the magical love between a cat and owner. They are offering fee-waived cat adoptions at the Amanda Foundation through October 30th. Now THIS is a way to celebrate National Cat Day!

Those in the LA area are invited to visit the shelter at 351 Foothill Rd, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 and take a photo in front of the #CatLuv mural. Anyone can participate in the campaign by posting a photo of their cat love to Instagram for a chance to win $500 and a 10,000 Fresh Step Paw Points donation to a shelter of their choice. All posts including the hashtags #CatLuv and #contest through Nov. 15 will be entered to win. For more info, and to check out the video, go here.

How will you celebrate National Cat Day?

How to Celebrate National Cat Day on October 29th — 11 Comments

  1. Awwww! So cute. That is my Dad’s birthday so it is already a special day! Very cool about the pet mural in LA. I am glad to hear that Fresh Step is helping with the shelters.

  2. I love that story. We’ve never gotten a cat from a shelter but I promise that the next one we get will definitely find a home with us from there. BTW we love Fresh Step too, it’s just one of the brands that we love using.

  3. I’m allergic, so I don’t have a cat. But I do love them:) My niece convinced my sister to adopt a cat, which then fell in love with her husband. So funny. Anyone who shows love to an animal is impacting the world in a positive way.

  4. I never knew there was a National Cat Day! I’ll have to see how Mr Kitty wants to celebrate it 🙂 She’s getting older and I don’t know how much longer she has. Often, when I think about her, I remember that first day I saw her wandering a mile from my home, then the next day at my door. You know how now people always talk about their “rescue” pet. I never use the phrase, too much of a banner for me. Really though, she rescued me long before the term became popular 🙂
