Bringing home baby? Read 5 tips for introducing pets to babies! These tricks will help prep your dog and/or cat for baby #ad #ZylkeneDifference #MyHappyPets

When we first brought baby Scarlet home from the hospital nearly eight years ago, we had an elderly Siberian Husky.

Stormy had only ever lived with Cassidy – and in San Francisco, no less. She was accustomed to strolling through Haight/Ashbury, jumping up on counters to receive treats from store clerks, and getting friendly pets from tourists from all over the world. Now, suddenly, she had been driven over 3,000 miles to go through a New England winter – FULL of ice storms – and to watch my belly grow, and grow. That was when I wished we could communicate better with pets.

How could we help her with the transition?

Bringing home a baby is a HUGE adjustment for everyone – especially your pets! Stormy was used to living with only one person, and just when she had gotten used to me – we threw a baby into the mix. She was quite old then, and Des never got to meet her. That said, we have learned so much about preparing pets for babies since then. We are quite happily kid parents and pet owners. I always say that it’s important to me to get one-on-one time with each of my kids, as well as my husband, but that extends to Athena and Juniper too! Although I can’t promise that I get that special bonding time with all 11 of our chickens, but give me some time. You never know! I love all of our pets, and I want to do what’s best for them.

Chances are, your pets have always been an important part of your family, and always will be. Show them how much you care by taking those extra steps to help them through the introduction and transition of meeting your newest family member – your baby. They are used to getting all the attention, and now may feel uneasy with the unfamiliar noises of a crying baby, the changes in household smells, the new household routines, and all of the well-meaning and well-wishing visitors in the house! What do pets need? Love, and Zylkene – a behavior supplement that helps dogs and cats relax and cope with challenging new situations (fireworks, travel, storms, new babies, etc.) – but withOUT making your pets drowsy.

Zylkene helps pets cope with a variety of short-term or long-term situations, and it’s flexible for short- or long-term use.

5 Tips on Prepping Pets For New Baby:

1 – Before the baby arrives, arrange for a pet-sitter to be on call for when the big day arrives.

2 – Create a safe space/retreat for your pet for when you arrive home with your baby. It should include blankets, towels, or old clothes to make it smell familiar. Also, provide plenty of toys/scratching posts for your dogs and/or cats.

3 – After your baby is born, but still in the hospital, have a loved one take one of baby’s first items of clothing home for your pet to start getting used to the new smell by the time you arrive home with your baby.

4 – Make sure you get your pet’s attention, and vice versa, once you get home. Involve your pet in baby routines, whenever possible. You can offer a treat before feeding the baby, etc. Associate that baby with positive experiences! Ask visitors to pay special attention to your pet(s), and make sure your pet has plenty of toys so as not to take the baby’s stuff!

5 – Try an all-natural calming supplement like Zylkene. Incorporate it into your pet’s diet to help him/her cope with the changing situation. It’s clinically proven to help them relax without causing sedation or drowsiness.

Zylkene is easy to use and highly palatable for pets. You administer it once daily – either whole capsule or opened and mixed with food for one daily meal. The vegetable capsules are well-accepted by both cats and dogs. This balanced behavior supplement contains a unique, milk-derived ingredient that promotes calmness. Zylkene has been a trusted resource for pet owners, veterinarians, vet techs, and behaviorists around the world for over a decade.

If your pet’s behavior changes suddenly in any way, schedule an appointment with your veterinarian. He or she can rule out any underlying medical issues as well as make additional recommendations. Consult your veterinarian before giving your pet Zylkene. Follow the recommended administration on the package, unless otherwise instructed by your veterinarian.
