It's beginning to SMELL a lot like Christmas all through the house! Don't let anything stop your house from being home for the holidays. #ad #MerrySpritzmas

It always astounds me to think about how I grew up in a house with four bathrooms. FOUR!

In fact, my parent’s farm has four bathrooms but that isn’t the house I grew up in – it’s just a coincidence. When we were looking for a house, with one toddler and another baby on the way, I said I had two deal breakers. First, it had to have central air. They laughed at me because apparently that’s not the default in New England, but I did get my wish! Second, the house had to have at least two bathrooms. I definitely got my wish on that one and I freely admit that it adds to my sanity, except.. things are a little nutty right now! We’re all sharing one bathroom while the renovations go on and on.

Not only that, but it’s nearly time for house guests! And you KNOW we’re all about the holidays here.

So you know I’m kind of an expert, right? Right. The thing is, I know what it’s like to deck the halls, and decorate the walls, and have the house smell AMAZING! Here are 5 Ways to Make Your House Smell Like Home For The Holidays this season.

1 – Get your simmering, mulling spices ON! Cassidy has been doing this since before we met, and I picked it up from him. I’m talking getting the good stuff going on your stove. Fill a saucepan with water and/or spiced cider and add cinnamon sticks, apple slices, orange slices, lemon slices, etc. Heat the mixture, let it simmer, and fill your home with happy smells!

You can also simmer pine branches on the stove too! YUM.

2 – Use the pine cones in your yard! You knew there was another use for them other than your kids’ crafts, right? We spritz them with a mix of cinnamon oil and water and then put them under the tree, near the fireplace, etc. SO yummy!

3 – Make your own scented ornaments. These are sort of a grade school treat. We used to use cinnamon, applesauce, and glue dough (don’t eat!) and then bake them and hang them from the tree. You get a whiff right when you walk by the tree.

It's beginning to SMELL a lot like Christmas all through the house! Don't let anything stop your house from being home for the holidays. #ad #MerrySpritzmas

4 – Make your own potpourri. You can experiment with dried fruit and spices. You can also use sprigs of balsam and rosemary. We keep ours in a bowl on our coffee table and it’s superbly delicious smelling. Like home for the holidays!

5 – Speaking of potpourri, the real star of the show is Poo~Pourri! We canNOT and will NOT have the holidays without this gem! You know what it is? It’s the perfect gift for the smell you’d rather forget! You can buy it for your loved ones (and yourself) because it’s funny and a great Christmas morning conversation. After buying, you use it because it WORKS!

Our favorite? Merry Spritzmas®. It’s peppermint, vanilla and citrus, so that’s pretty dreamy. In my desire to make EVERYTHING smell like Christmas, this was the first one I bought on poopourri.com! The natural essential oils eliminate bathroom odor before it begins – and in grand CHRISTMAS fasion – by creating a barrier on the water’s surface.

Buying my three favorite scents took two minutes! Poo~Pourri has received over 5,000 5 star reviews with 40MM bottles sold, and there’s always free shipping on orders over $19.95! I love to buy 3+ at once:

It’s really simple how Poo~Pourri works, though. You spritz it into the toilet BEFORE you go, and the pure blend of NATURAL ESSENTIAL OILS creates a film on the surface of the water. Then, this protective barrier traps odors under the surface, before they even begin! What you’ll smell is a refreshing bouquet of NATURAL ESSENTIAL OILS.

‘Cause lets’ face it – everybody does it – and especially in overcrowded houses during the holidays! It’s only natural, so use something all-natural and transform your bathroom experience for the better! And also, make it better for the ones who go in there after you! Live confidently and OWN your THRONE. Free yourself from toxic thoughts and ingredients.

This holiday recipe for Gingerbread Holly Cookies will brighten up your holiday season, and add much needed sunshine to your winter. #ad #NatureMadeVitaminD

Over the weekend, I spent some time at my parent’s farm. And I don’t know about you – but I’m feeling FESTIVE!

It’s funny how the light and spirit of the holiday season almost completely make up for the actual loss of light – with the early sunsets. My parents had their annual holiday party and I’m feeling warmed right now just remembering how nice it felt to be there. With my kids, with the holiday spirit, with nieces and nephews, and with the gorgeousness that surrounds us.

It wasn’t even sad when I left, even with the lingering goodbyes and the dark house we came home to, because the holidays are only a week away (Hanukkah) and three weeks away (Christmas)! And there were cookies! Lots of cookies! My mom is kind of the queen of holiday baking, and usually rolls out batches of sugar and butter cookies like it’s her job! I suppose for many, cookie baking is their job. For me, it’s both a challenge and a joy. I love my recipes to have benefits and meaning.

It’s important to say what inspired this recipe. And that’s Nature Made® Vitamin D3 2000 IU Tablets – found at Walmart. I’m always striving to live a healthier life, but I ramp it up during the holiday season. Life needs it, and I start with taking my daily Vitamin D vitamins with Nature Made. I find them in the vitamins aisle at Walmart. They’re my winter must-have!

All Nature Made Vitamin D products are on my winter shopping list. Nature Made® offers several levels of Vitamin D at Walmart, including Nature Made® Vitamin D3 2000IU Tablet and Nature Made® Vitamin D3 5000IU Softgel. The 5000IU high dose product is intended for those deficient in Vitamin D as determined and recommended by their physician. When you take vitamin D from Nature Made, you can rest assured that you’re getting quality vitamins from the #1 Pharmacist Recommended Vitamin and Supplement Brand – based on a survey of pharmacists who recommend branded vitamins and supplements. Nature Made® Vitamin D products are USP verified for purity and potency. ‡

Here are a few reasons why I love Nature Made Vitamin D products:

  • Vitamin D is synthesized by the skin when we’re exposed to sunlight during certain times of the day and year, and can also be found in a limited number of natural and fortified foods sources. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, and vitamin D supports bone, teeth, muscle and immune system health.†

  • Vitamin D3 – found in Nature Made vitamin D supplements – is the body’s preferred form of vitamin D. Vitamin D3 is more effective than vitamin D2 at raising and maintaining adequate levels of vitamin D in the body.†

  • 90% of US population do not meet their daily vitamin D needs1

  • Vitamin D helps improve calcium absorption†

  • Vitamin D supports bone, teeth, muscle, and immune health†

And those are a few reasons why they inspire me to bake really awesome cookies for my family this year.

While I feel like I have sugar and butter, and even chocolate chip cookies, totally figured out, this was the year to try a new gingerbread recipe. I first tried it at my parent’s farm, and then perfected it at home. I had to play around with it! I wanted only about half the sugar I usually use, and double the ginger. I love the feel-good ginger. Making cookies from scratch is a rewarding experience – and it’s nice to have my kids around too to taste test and see all the gorgeous ingredients that go in there. Do you love ginger the way I do? It makes me feel warmer all winter long. This is a feel good recipe for the season:
