Zombie Graves Halloween Treats!

How fun are these Zombies in the graveyard? Easy to make with pre-made Rice Krispie treats! Great for any party or reason for Halloween Treats! #recipe #fun

The thing is, I’m impressed I waited this long to share this recipe with you.

It’s simultaneously easy/creepy. It’s all things Halloween in this household, in ways I haven’t fully discovered yet. I’ve been in my blur of photo editing, lack of vitamin D (thanks, four gloomy days in a row), and staying out late last night to see A Bad Moms Christmas. Yes, I totally saw it early. It’s one of the perks of my job. Yes, it’s as good as the first one. You’ll thank me when you walk out of that one. That said, this is Halloween time! It’s on all of our brains! (BRAAAAIIIINS) I’m trying really hard not to give any spoilers away. Last time Cassidy made a super cool costume (more on that tomorrow), I had more limited media access than I do now. There was something pure in that, though. Just camera photos – and thorough ones too.

These days, I rely heavily on video and phone photos. They’re good, but they’re not real camera photos. And that said, it’s super hard to juggle two excited kids, my own propensity for dressing up, and a phone, AND a camera. I’ll see what I can do, though. It matters. A lot. And I’m super horrible at keeping secrets so I’m just going to stop talking now and share a recipe.

All good things in due time! I promise you that.

Zombie Graves

Ingredients

1 pkg. Rice Krispies Treats
1 can Vanilla Frosting
1 pkg. Chocolate Graham Crackers
2 — Hershey’s Cookies N Crème Candy Bars
Wilton Candy Melts, Orange
Green Candy Shreds
Black Food Coloring
1 pkg. Gummy Monsters

Halloween Treats

Directions

  1. Color the frosting with a few drops of black food coloring so it is a dark gray color, and then spread it on top of each of the Rice Krispies Treats.
  2. Place a monster on each one so it looks like it is coming up from the ground.
  3. Crush one package of the grahams and sprinkle over the frosting. Sprinkle some green candy shreds on to look like grass.
  4. Divide each candy bar into 3 sections. You can use an edible marker to write dates or funny names on the candy bar headstones.
  5. Melt the orange chocolate melts per package directions and put a dot on the front bottom edge of each candy bar headstone and press against the end of the krispy treat behind the zombie.

Why Pizza Night is a Tradition We Never Miss

While we welcome change, there are some things that should stay the same. Here's why we'll always keep our fun family #PizzaNight tradition #ad #ElliosPizza

It took awhile, but there’s finally a chill in the air.

I’m finding myself discovering old/new comforts in the midst of fall. I enjoy the smoky smell to the air – and we’re firing up our own pellet stove, after six months dormant. I’m digging out my flannel shirts and fuzzy sweaters and embracing this new season. We have dates on the calendar for pumpkin patch photo shoots, Thanksgiving weekend fun, and even frosty train rides to meet Santa. This season is ON! It’s also a season of change, and even more so than usual. Now we have school more than a month underway – and we’re almost up to two months! The kids are flourishing in school and we have attended back to school night and Scarlet’s track practices. We’ve gotten our flu shots and we’re about ready to hunker down for the cold.

There are some things that are new every year, and we relish the changes. We find better ways to heat our home. We carve better paths of snow to sled down the driveway. We learn something new every year from our annual winter trip to Florida and make the next year the “best yet.” I guess it keeps getting better! Sometimes we take a new trip or snuggle away for the weekend while the kids are at their grandparents, and often we institute a new dinner theme night. We do soup night, or rainbow salad night. As you probably know, we also enjoy the things that stay the same, year after year. PIZZA NIGHT!

And yet, it’s exciting every time. I first fell in love with Ellio’s Pizza when I used to babysit three kids. I’d make the pizza for them and watch them enjoy it, but rarely got to eat some of my own! I never wanted to feel that way so I asked my mom to buy it. It’s a staple dinner item where I’m from (New Jersey) and I’m happy to see it’s here in Massachusetts too! My kids fell in love with Ellio’s Pizza easily. Des will eat almost anything and he LOVES cold pizza in his lunch. So whenever it’s a weekday after pizza night, I put a wrapped, delicious rectangle of pizza right in his lunch box. Scarlet is pickier with her pizza, like a good daughter of a Jersey girl, but she fell in love with Ellio’s frozen pizza over the summer in one sitting.

It’s that good!

Ellio’s Pizza is also holding a special $10,000 scholarship contest! How can you win? In 500-1,500 characters, describe why your child (age 6-12) is a “Phenomenal Kid.” For full details, visit http://ellios.com/PhenomenalKids

With everything changing faster than I’d like, it’s awesome to make one thing stay the same. I have raised my kids with some permanent fixtures in our lives – routines and traditions that feel good and celebrate being together. I love to think about the fact that we’ll be doing this same thing years from now, and they’ll probably do an Ellio’s Pizza Night with their kids one day. And I like the way we all know it’s coming, and we get excited. Here’s why it’s a tradition we NEVER miss:

1 – Pizza Night holds a cozy time for us to be together during the colder and busier times of the year.

2 – Pizza Night helps us clean out our fridge! On Pizza Night we clear out the produce from the produce drawer and the leftovers from the previous week. This rocks! More nutrients, and a cleaner fridge to start a new week.

3 – Pizza Night allows us to explore new tastes. Why is this uniquely convenient, satisfying and fun snack/meal option helping us explore? Easy! It’s available in two different crust types – Original Crust and Sicilian Style – and there are eight total flavors. That’s a new variety every week for eight weeks. Not shabby! Also, Ellio’s frozen pizza uses only the freshest ingredients, with 100% real cheese and no artificial flavors. Here in the Northeast, it has a long-standing history!
